Well go on You Tube and look for Martina McBride singing it in 2002 at the Rose Bowl. Another Freeper mentioned Martina and so I checked it out and it WAS beautiful and sung by a decently dressed Martina as well. There ARE beautiful and correct renditions out there but the powers to be choose to put the ones who sound like fingernails scrathing on a chalkboard instead. I’m going to write a letter and hope everyone else does too. It’s time to stop this assinine nonsense and if a person doesn’t agree to sing it as it was written then they can step aside and someone else can sing it. Like the Cactus cuties.

I remember a rendition of the National Anthem at a boxing match (don’t recall who the fighters were) sung by Marvin Gaye. That may have been the best I have ever heard it sung.

I agree. She’s sung this before without incident. I’ll have some mercy on her and say she was understandably nervous.
Jose Feliciano (sp?) sang a wretched version. He got raves because he is blind. Go figure.

I don’t know Amy Grant from any other singer so I have no remembrance of her in her younger years.
I really would like to get a second look from yesterday and perhaps I’d reconsider. I’ve looked online and have seen lots of other pictures of her but no resemblance to what I saw yesterday.
Do you know if the entire event will be rerun?
How much was she paid to sing it? I heard $1.5 mil? She should not be paid.

No sale. I could understand if this was just some person singing it for the first time, but there is no excuse for somebody who puts themselves out as a Professional Entertainer. If she practiced more, she wouldn't have been nervous.

After looking at this again, not changing my mind about the inappropriate dress. It had not only a plunging neckline but was barely containing her!!!! And YES - her hair is stringy but I’m one who doesn’t think long hair should be worn on a woman past a certain age anyway.
