An Atlanta church's effort to improve relations between Christians and Muslims in their community has turned into a nationwide program that has churchgoers reading English versions of the Quran next to their Bibles.The scriptural study, called Jesus in the Quran, will take place this weekend at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston. The program began out of the basic Christian commandment to "love thy neighbor."
"In 2001, like most Americans, we were pretty awakened to the true Islamic presence in the world and in the United States," said Jon Stallsmith, the outreach minister at Grace Fellowship Church who initiated the Jesus in the Quran a few years ago. "Jesus says we should love our neighbors. We can't do that without having a relationship with them." Jesus in the Quran offers talking points for Christians and Muslims, addressing both shared values and places where they disagree. Through the lessons, churches in major cities like Atlanta, Seattle and Detroit, have been able to reach out to local Muslim populations, especially refugees....

What vested interest do you have in finding a Koran in your church pew?
No Christian outreach effort is legitimate unless it involves telling the truth, not splitting the difference with Izlam and buying into its ideas about Christ. This is most definitely not proselytizing. I read all the comments, one of which you cited was by someone who lives down the street from the church, not a member, and not exactly an authority.
Will the students learn about Sharia law during this stupidity.
Someone should remind the idiots at that Presbyterian church that Jesus is in Piss Christ as well as in the Queeran and that in the Queeran the Muslims deny Jesus’ divinity and claim he had someone else crucified in his place so he did not triumph (according to the paedophile Muhammed) of victory over sin and death. In short, bring a Queeran into a Christian church is blasphemy.
The “Jesus” of the Koran is not the same Jesus. You know that, of course, but apparently not everyone does.
The Presbyterians, IIRC were a Scottish group who developed without great formality and priests like the Anglicans. I picture them hunkered down in stone cottages in cold, wet weather sharing the Gospel.

We are called upon to be able to give a reasoned defence of our faith.
I have no problem with apologetics being taught in churches. Josh McDowell’s books were important in my own early walk. I have books on reaching several other religions, as well as an extensive library on Islam that I built up during my military service.
You may not feel called upon to convert the lost from other religions but other people do.
I was saved in a Presbyterian church ... they have gone a long way from the Lord since then.
These people are not Christians, they are pushing Islam.
How often does this group push Bibles on Mosques? Never.

yep. exactly. ...again, i was an insider at that Dawa meeting. for example, they discussed how to best present “outreach” at foreign communities, like Korean Christian churches. The single purpose, is always to advance Islam. ...they are rather single-minded about that...

again, it was an amazing education for a few months...
and the fear of converts being killed, is very real, and usually enough to prevent anyone from trying. even right here in the USA. people do not realize this... i initially went in, to learn to “pretend”, as the girl i loved did. She was born in Pakistan, but raised in the USA. but she told me Islam was evil, and she did not believe it, but was terrified to tell her Father. She wanted to marry me. but i saw her -literally- shake in fear, at simply being seen in a “Chuckie Cheese” with me and my child. later i bought her a ring, but she finally told me she could not, because “Now they are watching me more closely than ever”. for every “honor killing” or convert killing, there are many thousands who are intimidated into conformance instead... again, even here in the USA...
If your church let these people in, you are in the wrong church
Please note that these are the liberal presbyterians. There are some Presbyterians who still believe in the Bible. For example, the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church in America.
The only Presbys I ever had contact with were straight up Christians. MacCready; patriots. Late 70’s. Had a 30 minute discussion with her father before we could go to the movies...
