Gov. Brown uses unrest in Egypt to justify vote on his budget plan

California Governor Jerry Brown delivered his State of the State address this evening before a joint session of the California State Senate and Assembly. Speaking for about thirty minutes, Brown tried to tie his proposal for a special election to the crisis in Egypt.

"When democratic ideals and calls for the right to vote are stirring the imagination of young people in Egypt and Tunisia and other parts of the world, we in California can't say now is the time to block a vote of the people.” It’s a convoluted sentence, but no more so than equating the events in Egypt with a democratic movement. And calling GOP legislators “unconscionable” in attempting to block a public vote on his tax hikes, as though they were emulating Hosni Mubarak, is, well, unconscionable. Californians, some may recall, recently exercised their right to vote Brown into office.

Brown has proposed closing California’s $24.5 billion dollar budget gap with a combination of tax increases and spending cuts, in a plan to be placed before the electorate this year. His predecessor, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, was soundly defeated on a similar measure in 2008, and voters rejected several tax increase measures on the ballot this past November.

Brown was light on details, and long on rhetoric designed to appeal to both sides of the legislative aisle. “With 2 million Californians unemployed we must remove any unreasonable burdens and regulations that stand in the way of job creations.” That sounded good to conservative ears, but he took it back with his next sentence, emphasizing the word “reasonable,” leaving a hole large enough to drive a truck through.

Not a problem; after all, this is old "moonbeam", isn't it?

Hell, last time he was governor, he passed a bill and used the Hale-Bopp comet as his reason.

Californians have gotten exactly what they deserve as a governor.

Jerry you adled old man:

You are nothing more than sheepdip.

Friggin moron.

WTF does Egypt have to do with California.

Your stupid tie in show just how disconnected from reality you are.

You demonstrate once again you don’t care about Californians but more about yourself and the din of your voice over others.

Bite your tongue !

Some tax hikes would be welcome here in CA:

1) 50% tax on money transfers to Mexico
2) 50% tax on public employee pension payouts
3) 100% property tax (Confiscation) of vehicles driven without insurance

Combined with: Broadening the sales tax to everything while lowering the rate to 5%, eliminating the corporate income tax, and replacing the income tax with a flat 4% would all be worthwhile steps toward driving out the leeches and spurring economic growth.

I want a bumper sticker that says

“CALIFORNIA, THE BIG STUPID”

Some interesting points about how screwed up we are here

http://www.open.salon.com/blog/richard_rider/2011/01/22/breaking_bad_ca_vs_other_states_-_revised_1212011

“California’s 2011 Business Tax Climate ranks 2nd worst in the nation. “

“Fourth highest capital gains tax 9.55%”

“Highest gasoline tax (averaging 65 cents/gallon) in the nation, (October, 2010)”

California has 12% of the nation’s population, but 36% of the country’s TANF (“Temporary” Assistance for Needy Families) welfare recipients – more than the next 7 states combined. Unlike other states, this “temporary” assistance becomes much more permanent in CA. “

Moonbeam couldn't find Egypt on the map even if it had a target on it.

$24.5 billion dollar budget gap with a combination of tax increases and spending cuts, in a plan to be placed before the electorate this year.

Certainly there are enough Ca. leeches and moochers to vote for extorting even more taxes out of the dwindling productive citizens of the state. Factor in the moron votes for anything the "D" agenda promotes and voila.....

And, while gov moonbeam plays his “party of no” card, the mayor of New York City is talking about the “investigation” he had done regarding purchasing of firearms in Arizona. Does any of these liberals actually pay attention to the needs of their constituency? (Yes, I know that Bloomberg is suppose to be a Repub, but he’s a liberal all the same).

If the Egyptian government is co-opted by Islamists, it will have a target on it. Not by the U.S., of course. Not while Obozo is in the WH.

These are fluid events. There are groups pushing their agendas. Unless someone gets in there to provide support to the group that wants a peoples up type government it will fall to the religion which is really an ideology known as Islam.

Bloomberg is at time an independent. He ran for mayor and was elected as a republican only because the democrats already had a candidate. He was a life-long democrat. Still is.
