The Audacity of Hope
Founding Ideals ^ | 01/20/2011 | Aaron Gee

A few days ago President Obama had an editorial published in the Wall Street Journal. The piece titled “Toward a 21st-Century Regulatory System” has Obama all but sounding Republican.

Sometimes, those rules have gotten out of balance, placing unreasonable burdens on business—burdens that have stifled innovation and have had a chilling effect on growth and jobs.

The President’s piece tries to please his left leaning supporters by reminding them that his executive order is far from deregulation. At the same time President Obama points to glaring examples of the utter stupidity that can be our overly intrusive regulatory system. The best example; the FDA has long approved the use of saccharin in food, while the EPA requires companies to treat it as a dangerous substance. The thrust of the piece is designed to placate businesses and voters upset with government overreach with phrases like;

……we are seeking more affordable, less intrusive means to achieve the same ends—giving careful consideration to benefits and costs.

Founding ideals whole heartedly embraces the ideal of a saner regulatory environment, but we are skeptical of such a call from the man that signed into law the two regulatory disasters known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

The new tone coming from the White House signals the start of a shift toward the center à la Bill Clinton in an attempt not to be a one term President.......

After one particularly bad incident in my teen years I promised my mother that something like that would never happen again.

Her response was:

“Talk is cheap.”

Those words have always stayed with me and sometimes I can actually measure up to them.

Enough said.

  He also is really good at not saying what he will do but uses open ended language. People think - "this guy will do what I believe". The truth is that Obama will do what he believes which is more akin to a Fabien style socialist.

  The political instinct to "save his hide" may change that. It remains to be seen, but as another poster said - talk is cheap.
