My company just signed a $500m dollar contract with USAID to build Hospitals, Women Clinics amd Schools in Afganhistan.
I got to thinking about this today. We, the USA borrows money from China at 8% interest to hire local foreign subcontractors to build facilities to give to a country that will either end up being our enemy or blowing them up. Furthermore we can not even offer thousands of craft jobs to American.
And in the end we the taxpayers get to pay this off.
Am I insane or is this the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
I am also a Senior stockholder, yet I am upset.
A lot of government spending is insane. We’d be better off letting the Afghanistan government do it themselves at probably a fifth of the cost.
or
Not paying for their hospitals at all. I thought we were there to fight the Taliban.
I’m having troube also.
Maybe you’d care to name the company you work for?
And the CEO? I’d be glad to fire off an angry e-mail for you.
Be glad to do it, noobie.
You're correct in seeing as you do, but unless we get sane people into politics (Oh, how I have hope for this freshman group .. !), We are the cuckoo ... or the nest ... or nurse ratchet ... or .... hell, like you .. I can't follow it either.
btt
Plus, the Afghan guovernment will probably tax it all.
To blame the company/contractor is to kill the messinger, it is the issuer of the contract that is to blame, in this case the government, send your email there please
Nation building is something we need to cut OUT of the budget. Let’s cut foreign aid to the bone.
Sorry, need my job right now, but I am trying to discuss with my Business Group President and ask what we are supposed to represent.
I’ll post more if I decide to seek employment elsewhere.
I totally agree, I have sent letters to both my Congressman and Senators as well as the USAID representatives, but I see little hope of this changing anything.
This is the redistributionist mentality at work. We rich Americans have to help impoverished people because “we” have money and “they” don’t. When it comes to figuring out which Americans actually will bear this burden, half of America gets an exemption and the top 1% are presumed to be able to afford to pay about 40% of the total even though they earn only 20% of the nation’s income etc.

In the eyes of progressives, the “rich” (often perceived by progressives not to deserve their income or wealth: see the URL above as an illustration) have nearly unlimited capacity to bankroll whatever grandiose ideas progressives come up with to make the world a better place. From their point of view, we don’t need to borrow from the Chinese. What we “should” do, in their view, is simply raise taxes on the rich, since they can afford it.
