Charlie Brown and the Republicans
American Greatness ^ | 1-17-11 | Chance Gibson

As children, we all wondered why Charlie Brown always fell for Lucy’s football prank. Time after time, she would assure him that she would not pull the football away. And, time after time, Charlie Brown would finally succumb, get up a head of steam, and at the last moment Lucy would snatch the ball away only to have Charlie Brown sail through the air and land with a THUMP. As children we wondered how, after being tricked 783 times, he could possibly fall for it again. Alas, Charlie wanted something so badly that history and common sense could not allow him to see the light.

Now, as adults, Charlie Brown has been replaced by Republicans and Lucy by Democrats. After decades of having “the football” pulled away and land flat on their backs, why do Republicans insist on jettisoning historical reference and common sense when dealing with their political foes? The two most recent examples of this jackassery are the call for “unity” and raising the debt ceiling.

To be certain, the events of Tucson were a tragedy. That said, Republicans cannot allow themselves to again play the role of Charlie Brown as the Democrats, and their willing accomplices in the media, hijack the tragedy for political gain. This new “call for unity and civility” is just the Democrats’ way of snatching the football away. For more than a week now, we’ve heard comments from the left like, “Calling Obamacare what it is will create a climate of hostility” and “how uncivil to threaten a government shutdown”. Well, I say unto those trumpeting this message, “Bring it on!”

The Left and Obama control the media and TV. Good luck trying to fight against them. See Palin getting bashed 24x7. You also get bashed as a racist. The public is complicit by empowering the left with their TV viewership.

Boehner is going to tone down his rhetoric and cry again. And at the State of the Union, they are going to sit toether with the RATS. Lucy is still going to pull that ball away...again.

I was thinking he was going to write "conservatives" for Charlie Brown and "Republicans" for Lucy. My mistake.

Why not? The Republicans allow the media and mischievous Dem voters to choose our nominee in most presidential elections. Every four years, the mainstream media tell us that Bob Dole is a great statesman and a natural leader, or the same for George W. when they thought they could beat him, or most recently for McCain. Then as soon as the nomination is decided, they “discover” that our nominee is just too divisive. What are the chances that we will choose our own nominee in 2012 instead of falling for this old trick again?

You might say Republicans are Lucy and conservatives are Charlie Brown. We keep expecting the Republicans to move the ball in our direction and they keep going the other way.

Exactly, Colorado Tanker!

That’s what I’m talkin about. Poor Charlie’s getting duped by Lucy (Could that be Nancy Pelosi?) again.

Great illustration!

So why does “Charlie Brown” believe “Lucy” in the first place? Why is Charlie Brown not more independent?

Simple, he will drink ditch water as long as he gets his thirst only temporarily quenched. Just the possibility that the cruel one might be telling the truth is his satisfaction. Charlie Brown deeply wants to belong to Lucy’s group of friends. He’s a lonely soul who is not prepared to resist the coming joker and the joke on him.
