If you want an html primer . Free Republic has it here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2650195/posts Most of us get by with the simplest ones. As to picture posts, most of us have an account at photobucket, or flickr or some such site that solicits photo uploads which automatically give you the html link for the uploaded photo. Photobucket has a lot of java based editing software which allows one to add text etc.You can also hot link to photos ad other text sites. You have to be careful with copyrighted photos and especially cartoons. Some of the best political humor is composed by freepers right here, using photo shop. One of these is a hillarious ZOT photo ( there are many). Photobucket

As to ping lists there is no master list of them that I know of, generally you can read an article from one ( eg. Anne Coulter Ping List) and ask the person posting the article to be put on the list. This is usually done privately through Freep Mail. The private ping lists are like mini fraternities, once you encounter one, you can ask to be included. They are generally topic area specific, and if you find yourself interested in one topic or another , you will encounter the list manager. Just look for the PING post on an article thread. As to posting text, the convention here is that it is usually at the top unless its from an outside source. Also if you mention a Freepers name in your post it is also a convention here to include them when you post. There is no quote button. Its good to have a home page, and most put info. there but generally nothing that would make them insecure. You access that by clicking account on your mail page.

I even updated my Profile Page (which is what I assume was the home page that you mentioned). I did not put up anything really specific about me such as my photo or where I live or work or go to school.

Although I was able to successfully combine links and graphics to create a couple of neat pictures that are “click-able” that go to a couple of websites that are really interesting and do give a bit of a clue as to my background. :-)

My understanding is that this site is totally open to the whole world, not just the members, so that anyone visiting the site can view any page on the forum, including the member profile pages.

I want to be free to post what I really feel, without worrying about some idiot finding me or using it against me at some time in the future. Especially if I find it necessary to keep my true feelings to myself in order to do my present or my future job and career.

The nature of information on the Internet / World Wide Web is that once you put a bit of information out there, it’s out there for ever. You can delete it, but if it has been picked up by someone or something else you can’t call it back.

Caution is in order for all world wide web accessible open communication.

Thanks again for all your help the for the friendly warm welcome!
