Fox’s Brit Hume: Sarah Palin Is “Kind Of Radioactive”
Mediaite ^ | 1/16/11 | Matt Schneider

Posted on 01/16/2011 2:50:12 PM PST by markomalley

As more pundits react to Sarah Palin’s video response on the Arizona shooting, Fox’s Brit Hume professed he’s never in his life seen someone receive such vicious media coverage as Palin and attempted to broadly define the “Sarah Palin Problem” on Fox News Sunday.

Before Hume summed Palin up, Fox commentator Juan Williams shared his bewilderment over Palin’s tone and word choice in the video, and thought the whole thing was “unnecessary.” This “just gave her opponents such an opportunity then to excoriate her . . . and did not raise her stature,” Williams concluded. Brit Hume offered up his own perspective:

“The Sarah Palin problem really is a problem that she has largely, I think through no fault of her own, become kind of radioactive. And it does mean that when she is in a situation like this where she’s the focus of national attention, she must be extremely careful about how she reacts to it.”

Hume believes on balance this video didn’t help her and especially given the media’s “derangement syndrome” with trying to character assassinate her, would expect Palin to be more thoughtful with her public statements. Odd that throughout this whole ordeal, by far Palin’s strongest and unwavering supporter has not been any of her Fox News co-workers and instead has been MSNBC’s lonely conservative Pat Buchanan.

They probably have a better alternative to offer, like CBS.

Netflix and FR for the news. Simple.

Responding to stupidity is not always the way to go

Look what happened to Bush when he used that philosophy.

Sarah Palin isn’t hated only by the Democrats. She’s also hated by the Republican Establishment. She’s a big voice for a bottom-up movement, that just played a large role in the shellacking in last November’s elections. That sent a shock wave - and the Republican Establishment knows if they don’t pay attention, their as**s will be kicked out in the next election.

Netflix and FR for the news. Simple.

I'm on a couple of decent news feeds, from which I receive daily news emails including...

www.dailycaller.com
www.townhall.com

I have a couple of others, but the point is, I don't need Fox News to get my news any more. Oh, I still watch Cavuto and Beck, and occasionally, the 6 PM news. And when I can, I watch Redeye. But I don't watch O'Reilly any more, and whenever Shep's on, I turn the channel. Can't stand that guy at all.

Fact is, I'm tired of getting pooped on by the left including their mainstream media sycophants and I'll be da*ned if I'm going to spend time listening to them insult me or the people that think like I do. An insult to Sarah Palin from the left is an insult to me.

“I agree with the pundits had she said absolutely nothing the left would have looked worse and they might even have been forced to shut up. Responding to stupidity is not always the way to go{

As I recall GWB used your tactic, and rarely, if at all, came out defending himself against the left’s slurs. It didn’t work out that well for him, or us, now did it?

Are you suggesting that Sarah adopt that same failed tactic?

One of the reasons I like Sarah is that she isn’t afraid to confront the left’s lies head on. Like any good fighter she is a good counterpuncher....giving back much better than she gets. Good on her!

Amen to that. I don't know where to turn to avoid them anymore and I am like a lot of you - Fox news makes me sick since the Giffords thing. They are disgusting - almost all of them. Greta is often good for Sarah but she constantly has all the rinos on her show, as well as Hannity - I don't watch o'reilly since a long time. This one makes me throw up...yikes. What is outrageous is that Sarah is also a FN contributor...how can she stands having all her..friends put a knife in her back constantly. Can't wait for her to run. At least she will be protected.

It’s pretty easy to disseminate who posts after only reading the headline and who posts after actually reading the entire article...

Any slip-up on her part, no matter how minor, will be amplified tenfold by the national news media.

That's true.

But she still remains the knight (knightess?) in shining armor. Very little has stuck to her.

Agreed. I think Sarah did what she had to do. I don’t think the point was to “benefit” herself, but to make the point that she would not stand for the false charges

I have heard some say that she should have kept quiet and let others defend her. I just had to laugh. Have they missed the photos of this woman out in snow, shooting her own game to feed herself and her family. This is a self-reliant woman (someone feminists should just love, but for some reason, don't). She is not going to rely on someone else to defend her. She will defend herself.

People using the tragedy in Tucson for their political point of view have no class! I remember when President Reagan was shot, you did not see Republicans running around accusing Democrats of the shooting. Now, you have left-wing nuts blaming Gov. Palin and the tea party. We should be all praying for the victims, not accusing other people of the shooting just to stress their political point of view.

You all need to turn off Fox... There is enough sites on internet and radio to keep informed.

And I bet you after the Hannity interview this week, they will be talking about her again... if she was a dolt, they would ignore her but they won’t.

FNC is becoming a joke, it is MSM with a few moderates and conservatives sprinkled in.

Palin’s video took time, according to Brit that’s bad.

Did “Together they Thrive” take time? How long does it take to pen a funeral slogan? Did the campaign staff or consultant pitch it among other slogans? To whom? You can bet they pitched it to Obama! That’s probably to distasteful a subject for Brit.

Did you see they cut to the frown on Juan Williams’ face, the producer at least has some credibility.

Yet the furor over “blood libel” arises from the fact that it is exactly right. They were charging her with being complicit in the murder of a child, Christina Green. Part of the problem is that she is proficient with a gun. I doubt that any of the commentators even knows how to shoot a firearm of any sort. It is a tool alien to their experience, so they have a visceral reaction to shooting game.
