President Obama wants a national ID card for online commentary

Big brother might be just around the corner. Secretary of Commerce Gary Loche announced on January 7 plans for a National ID Card for the internet.

Their plan is straightforward. Instead of logging onto Facebook or one's bank using separate passwords established with each individual company or website, the White House will take the lead in developing what it calls an "identity ecosystem" that will centralize personal information and credentials. This government-approved system would issue a smart card or similar device that would confirm an individual's identity when making online credit-card purchases, accessing electronic health care records, posting "anonymous" blog entries or even logging onto one's own home computer, according to administration documents.

Here is the biggest laugh of all:

Officials insist this would be a voluntary program and deliver significant benefits to the public.

There was free speech before the internet; it was impossible to track centrally. In some respects that was a freer and better situation.

These fascists - and I use the term correctly - will argue that no ID is required to VOTE - but an ID should be required for speach.

I take it back - traditionally, fascists are at least better organized, and appeal to some form of rationality. These guys are just batshit nuts.

Or ... maybe .... my speach is “interstate commerce” ... because it is so valuable. So .... pay up everyone!

In Maine there is no license or permission from anyone required to purchase a firearm.

The 2nd amendment says “bear”, not purchase. BIG difference.

Also, can you tell me that Maine is exempted from filling out form 4473? That is not permission, per se, but Maine is no different that most other states that let citizens buy firearms. Can I walk around Maine with my M4 at the low ready or my pistol openly carried in a holster?

It will impossible to do business or correspond on the Internet without your having the mark ID.

In Maine, as in many other states, you can purchase a firearm from a private party with no paperwork.

True, if you go into a gun shop and purchase a firearm there, then the feds have all your information.

A neighbor purchased a Beretta from a friend of his in Florida. Shipped through the mails, no one the wiser.
It was the same type of sidearm I saw LAPD patrolmen use in the 1990’s. It was in the original box, never fired.

I’ve seen guys walking around with pistols in a holster here in Maine. You don’t see it everyday, but I have seen it. During hunting season, I’ve seen guys walking down a busy street carrying a rifle. No one was bothered.

I’m just glad that Maine broke away from Massachusetts in 1820. In Mass., you have to get permission from your local police chief to purchase a handgun.

Absolutely correct.

This internet ID is a prerequisite for collecting taxes on goods purchased online.

“It’s not just about the anonymous blogging, it’s also about the money.”

Double whammy here. When you go to a website to do “commerce”, the store will know who you are and where you live, and can link to some pending database to see what else you’ve bought or looked at, and possibly what competitors you’ve done business with.

Let the smam roll! Personalized snailmail ads, email ads, specialized popups, and shenanigans we can’t think of yet.

If you work for a company and visit another company’s website for competitive intelligence and price/service comparisons, they’ll know just who you are.

So he wants a National ID to look at porn and other sites, but a National ID for voters is a violation of civil rights.
MY BRAIN HURTS.

Coming soon to a laptop near you.

No need to ID yourself to vote, only to communicate ideas.
