A preacher for the church of Christ was killed in the Giffords shooting incident. Slain was Dorwin Stoddard, 76, of Mountain Ave. church of Christ. His wife was wounded. Seems the media hasn't had much to say about that.
While there is a similarity in the name, the church of Christ has a completely separate history from those other churches. There is no branch that connects them with the UCC, one never splintered off from the other because they were never together in any way.
Trinity United Church of Christ is just one local congregation that is under the United Church of Christ (UCC) umbrella, under their hierarchy. Disciples of Christ has a different origin, but I think I read somewhere that they are sort of merging with the UCC denomination -- could be wrong on that.
The many congregations of the churches of Christ are all completely autonomous from one another, there is no earthly hierarchy above the individual congregation.
Six people were shot and killed on Saturday, including Arizona’s chief federal trial judge, John McCarthy Roll (63). He is survived by his wife, Maureen, and three sons.
Christina Taylor Green, a 9 year old born on Sept. 11, 2001, and included in the book, “Faces of Hope, Babies Born on 9/11,” was also shot and killed. She was recently elected to her school’s student council board, played baseball and did ballet.
Other released names of those slain include Dorwan Stoddard (76), Dorothy Murray (76), Phyllis Schenk (79), and Gabe Zimmerman (30), who served as Rep. Gifford’s director of community outreach.
I wonder if the fact that she was Jewish had anything to do with the shooting?
And the extraordinary braveness of the woman who attempted to grab the killers extra magazine.

Her name is Patricia Maisch and she is brave......also just blamed Republicans for what happened on Fox news just now.
lol. another "render unto Caesar" misquote?
Actually, I wasn’t thinking of that at all, but rather at the misconception of his disciples that he would overcome Roman rule and retake the throne of Israel.
It was a serious comment, not meant to be snarky, so I’m somewhat puzzled by the tone of your reply.
This tragic occurrence gave Obama’s leftist plotters just the ammunition they needed to silence ANY opposition that might crop up against his and his little leftist club’s “plans” for us. I hope this doesn’t affect the Republicans’ plans for repealing “Obamacare” and hope they get back on course after this current thing dies down.
the movie The Book Of Eli exposes your point in spades
FIRST I’ve heard of this is your posting. Thank you.
many were in that area cause of the grocery store, dry cleaners and Circle K......not just to see Gabby
Doesn’t fit the liberal meme. Now, had it been a Muslim imam, it would have been further evidence of the evil conservatives.
*ping*
Thank you for posting this story, he died a brave man.
“Giffords is a blue dog democrat, not a leftwing wacko.”
Giffords went as far left as she could given her district. On big votes, she was allowed to vote against the democrat line - IF Pelosi already had enough votes to pass the legislation.
In one case, Giffords voted no, and then remained in the well of the House with a yes vote, ready to switch if Pelosi needed her vote. That makes her a damned liar!
Thanks for this information. I had not heard it.
My prayers are going up for this preacher’s family and the congregation where he ministered.
One more tragedy to add to the others.
I suspect that you are correct, as I've read that Rep. Michele Bachmann was in tears about what happened to her friend Gabby Giffords.
And evidentally knows Rep. Michele Bachmann very well. Bachmann was described as being furious about this happening to her 'good friend' Gabby Giffords.
You have to figure out which one it is to see if he was being brave, or if he tripped and fell on her.
Thanks hennie pennie.
Yeah, he leaped on his wife to protect her ~ those guys do that. Actually, ever since Alvin York everybody kind of expects them to.
