Cadillac also going small – Urban Luxury
Motoism News ^ | January 2, 2011

The luxury automobile maker, Cadillac has noted the potential of small cars and has now come out with a concept car for urban driving. It will still be a spewing with luxury from all angles, including scissor doors and a very spacious cabin. Which brings me to one very troublesome fact - the small Cadillac isn’t very small.

In fact it is only a couple of inches shorter than a sedan! As far as specifications go, the small Cadillac, Urban Luxury, will have a 1.0 litre petrol engine with 3 cylinders and an electric motor. It will be equipped with stop-start and regenerative braking and a massive grille at the front, giving it a nice wide grin, which also indicates the mood of Cadillac – a perpetual pride in its conceptions.

This kind of breaks my heart...about Cadillac that is.
I became a Caddy fan in the very early '80s. I had to find a larger vehicle for business reasons and found that there were some very good quality Cadillac available with very low miles in some retirement communities close to my home.
I bought an 1989 soft top Fleetwood and was absolutely amazed at the vehicle. Coming from sports cars - it was a revelation. On to a 91 Coupe De Ville with very low miles and I was hooked.
Then I discovered Eldorados - a 94, then a 98, then a 2000 - all ETC models. Fast, comfortable and all getting 27+ mpg on the highway. With 0 - 60 in around 7.2 seconds. Not too shabby.

I hated to see the Eldorado line discontinued. They were/are some great vhoicles with the right maintenance and driver attitude.

I’ll stick with Lincoln.

If I’m going to spend $50k on a car, it’s not going to be on a Government Motors econobox that falls apart in 5 years.

a mere shadow of its glory days

I remember its glory days (1970s) when the chromed metal seat handles broke off to reveal chromed sponge metal, the trash metal held together by a chrome skin - all flash, zero quality.

One of the local used car lots has a ‘72 Eldorado convertible, they’re asking $5K for it. Nice light yellow with the white rag top. I was thinking it would make a good tow vehicle for an Airstream trailer.

I almost hate to do this to a Honda Fit....

Which one will see 250,000 + miles? (see answer below)

Too small for the U.S.

Caddy needs to do an A3 / A4 / 3-Series / C-Class sized vehicle well first, much more than they need an itty bitty urban-only car like this.

We've gone from the Standard of The World (above), to a Smart-car stretch. A real shame.
