The same thing every year now. Liberal circle jerk.

Euroweenies do not like westerns. They prefer existential homosexual orgies and self flagellation.

Thanks for this post.

By the way, I was pleasantly surprised to see Jack make reference to Iris Dement.
She is terrific.

You can’t “remake” John Wayne.

I can't believe there's no creative writers left in the world so they have to keep resurrecting the old stuff...pretty soon we'll see, The Bad, The Good and The Ugly.

So...it has Matt Damon in it?

I'll probably see the new version, and probably enjoy it, but you know, sometimes the original just can't be beat...
And speaking of "beat", or better said, "circle beat", that would be The Oscars.

I don't afford going to the movies anymore and could care less what the academy thinks of any members of the Film Actors Guild.

What a load of crap.
A couple of dozens of film critics cheering for Moore or Gore is as little representative of Europeans as Hollywoood is of Americans.
Nota bene: Europeans have been voting for conservative governments, Americans for Marxism. Perhaps it pains the author too much to face reality and the result is denial and a search for a scapegoat to vent his frustration.

Don’t think that the Golden Globe November 5 deadline for nominations and the film’s December 22 release date had anything to do with this “snub?”
To: 2ndDivisionVet
Oscar nomination ballots were sent out on Monday, December 27 with a deadline of Jan 14, 2011. A film that was only released five days before probably wont be included no matter how good it is.

I did not like the first True Grit.
Horrible, simply horrible acting by Glenn Campbell ruined every scene he was involved in.
He stunk up the screen so badly that even John Wayne could not save it, and it was disgraceful that True Grit was picked to give John Wayne an Oscar that he earned in the Movie “The Quiet Man.”

Searching around it does look like “True Grit” will be up for several Oscars but still the late release date may hurt it which is the studio's fault if they wanted Oscars for this one.
All films released during the nomination period should be on equal footing but it doesn't work that way in real life. A movie released very early or late in the year has to fight against movies that were released at just the right time for nominations.

"True Grit," the year's best movie and one of the best Westerns ever made Very pleased by the strong positive buzz on this one. Very much looking forward to seeing it.

We saw our only live attendance at a real theater for this year on Christmas day. True Grit was worth the effort, both for good acting and the dialog which was of particular interest to me. Quaint and serious and no words wasted. Public opinion and enjoyment of this family movie will provide the Oscar this movie warrants.
