Need IE8 Help - First Character Must Be Typed Twice [Vanity]

Need IE8 Help ...

When I go to certain web sites and want to use something like the "Store Locator" box, I place the cursor in the box and type the Zip Code.

Only, the first number does not display. Then, I have to re-position the cursor and type in the first number. Then, it displays. Same thing if I type in the first number [no display], backspace, then type it in, everything is fine.

There is no problem in the IE8 Address Bar or the Search Bars and it does not occur using the word processor or spreadsheet programs. So, I do not believe it is a keyboard problem.

I could certainly use some help.

There is only one thing I can think of ... Since it does not happen at all web sites, could it be a problem with the HTML coding of the web pages that do display the problem ? Meaning, it is their problem and not mine ?

what web sites? and do you have anti-virus software?

some viruses will spoof you into thinking you are running a web page when they are really capturing your keystrkes and forwarding them on to a web page

It is possible due to the way IE8 treats some scripts.

Try this. Go to a website wqhere it’s happening. Put your cursor in the box, then before you hit numbers, hit the backspace key once.

Let me know if the first number showes up after you hit the backspace key.

Some web sites may not be compatible with IE8.

You could try using IE8’s “Compatibility View”: Click the Tools button, and then click Compatibility View.

Or try using Firefox as your browser instead of IE8.

I went to www.truevalue.com [store locator box is at the bottom of the page].

Hit the backspace, then a number - no difference. Hit the number again, and it appears.

So, in my post - I made a mistake. I then tried this:

You don’t have to hit backspace at all. If I initially position the cursor in the box and hit the number the first time, no number shows in the box and the cursor does not move.

When I hit the number a second time, everything is fine [first number shows and then all succeeding numbers as I enter them].

That site’s store locator field works OK for me.

What version of IE8 do you have? (Click Help > About Internet Explorer to see the version number.)

As you are likely hitting the same number for your zipcode, try opening a document or e-mail in a program (other than IE) and see if that key is functioning properly on your keyboard.

Do you have multiple monitors? I have seen that occur on systems with two displays.

As I said in the post - no problem with entering into IE8 Address Bar, Search Bars, or other programs such as word and Excel. Even typing this [222] in this FR Posting Comment text box is ok ...

I use Yahoo for public mail - when I enter my user name and password, no problem.

Then, I go to a site like Truevalue Hardware and enter in the Store Locator box. The problem shows up.

Switch to Firefox. You’ll never go back to IE.

IE is a piece of junk.

Try firefox:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/switch.html

Or Chrome:
http://www.google.com/chrome
Chrome is the fastest browser I have ever used.

You’ll thank yourself. Switch!
