NPRs Nina Totenbergs recent offensive remark about Christmas (forgive the expression) would have had her fired had the network followed the same rules that saw Juan Williams contract revoked. But that is liberalism. Juan committed the unpardonable sin of appearing on Fox News, Totenberg did not. So she gets a pass.
The vicious attacks on Christianity by liberals usually peak at Christmas, one of the two most important celebrations for Christianity. Christmas is an easy target because it has devolved from a primarily a religious holiday, to a more commercial one. But even in its current form, it is a time of cheer, forgiveness and joy....
As I sat through the service I thought about the recent attacks on Christianity and how trivial they are compared to past history. In Roman times, Christians defied lions in the Coliseum. They lived and practiced their religion in the catacombs out of fear of Roman reprisals. Despite all of this, Christianity thrived and spread. It also survived in Soviet Russia,

Screw Nina totenberg.
That’s a scary thought!
Not with my junk!
Before everyone gets all bent out of shape, Nina Totenberg wasn’t attacking Christmas. Quite the opposite. She had just been to a party at a government office that was billed as a “Holiday Party” and was actually mocking the government bureaucrats for treating “Christmas” as an unmentionable word. This is a lot of vitriol aimed in the wrong direction.
“But even in its current form, it is a time of cheer, forgiveness and joy.... “ You’ve nailed it! Nobody can stop us from celebrating and enjoying Christmas! Even non-Christians have to admit that the birth of a very holy man who has brought comfort and solace to so many is cause for joyful celebration. Jesus didn’t recommend stonings, amputations and decapitations. He was a little hard on those money people in the temple, but, hey, they had it coming.
Where would you rather live—a Christian community or a muslim community? Not appreciating the birth of Jesus seems nutty.
Thanks for posting “Before everyone gets all bent out of shape ...”. This thread represents an important cautionary lesson for those willing to take a moment to ponder it.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all.
Thanks for the post. Too often we form opinions based on too little information. As Mark Twain said, "It is not so much what we don't know that gets us in trouble, it is more what we do know that is untrue."
I look forward to the day when Ms Totenberg moves on from the American mass media to Al Jazeera or Al Qaeda or some other lunatic fringe media outlet where her self-righteous sophomoric bloviations can blossom forth unfettered and I don’t have to accidentally trip over her while I’m flipping channels.
Merry Xmas and happy holidays to all.
