Al Sharpton: Arrogant to let people say what they want

In what is becoming a weekly series on MSNBC's The Ed Show, Reverend Al Sharpton upped the ante yet again regarding his crusade against conservative speech.

Not content with going after people he thinks are racists, Sharpton is now targeting anyone he believes to be sexist or "homophobic".

This Wednesday, Sharpton told Shultz:

Well, first of all, we're not talking about censorship. We're talking about standards. And there are already standards in place. We're saying those standards ought to include those that in an explicit or even an implicit way practice racism or sexism or homophobia on the airwaves. And can you imagine the arrogance of saying federally-regulated airwaves should not be subjected to federal public hearings, so they should just grant licenses, allow people to say what they want?

In Sharpton's world, anyone who disagrees with the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell could be practicing "implicit" homophobia, and should be silenced, because in his mind, people should not be allowed to say what they want.

Sharpton is calling for McCarthy-like hearings where conservatives would be brought before the FCC to explain their comments and prove they are not racists. He has already met with FCC Commissioners, some of whom have expressed support for his Inquisition. If he gets his way, Rush Limbaugh and others will be forced to defend their opinions before a hostile group of liberal bureaucrats.

Never mind the First Amendment, which says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Reverend in name only?

What does his Bible tell him about homosexual acts?

Tolerance is not Love if it’s going to send someone to Hell.

Why is it that he doesn’t mention anti-semitic speech?

Al Sharpton is an attention whore. Read into the Tawana Brawley case, I believe he was alleged to have stated something to this affect: he is interested in getting his name out there and nothing else. This “man” lives and feeds on publicity, and he doesn’t care if it’s positive or negative. The best way to defeat this clown is to ignore him.

Of course, in Al’s world, slandering and libeling police officers and district attorneys, and inciting people to riot is A-OK.

This is a despicable human being and anyone who gives him any forum at all is equally dispicable.

As we all know, the left had total control over the flow of information for many decades. Then came Rush, talk radio, FOX news and the internet and BANG—the people of the US has access to facts, truth and REAL information. The first target of any prospective dictator is the information service, which is why Hussein has packed the FCC with his own, chosen, Marxist thugs.

Including the 70% of California's African-Americans who voted for Proposition 8? Would anyone even bring this up to him?

Lib. Hero Sharpton Screams ‘Punk Faggot’ on TV (ca. 1988/89)

"Before Al Sharpton was trying to dictate what Rush Limbaugh can say on the public airwaves, he was using politically incorrect language on television. We can find no instance of liberals at the time demanding that Sharpton be taken off the air for his homophobic rantings."

Al Sharpton ordered to pay $65,000 in damages in Tawana Brawley hoax. (1998)

Sharpton was found guilty of making false accusations and statements in the Tawana Brawley case.

"Al Sharpton was ordered to pay Steven Pagones $65,000 in damages. Sharpton did not pay. With interest and penalties, the sum rose to $87,000. By January, 2001, Pagones had only collected $15,000 by having Sharpton’s salary garnisheed. Pagones claimed that Sharpton was concealing his wealth. Then a group of wealthy black men stepped in to pay off Sharpton’s penalty."

FEC slaps Rev. Al with $285k fine (2009)

Sharpton, "violated campaign finance laws widely, and has agreed to pay a $285,000 fine, the FEC said"
