Diane Sawyer Cordially Invites Frosh GOPers to Slit Their Own Throats on National TV
The Weekly Standard ^ | 12-22-10 | JOHN MCCORMACK

A source on the Hill tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that ABC's Diane Sawyer is trying to line up freshmen Republican congressmen for a segment the night before the new Congress begins its new session. This is the email from ABC producers to the freshmen Republicans:

"On Tuesday, January 4th, Diane would like to assemble a group of Freshmen Tea Party Members on the eve of the new congress to them about their hopes, their vision for the next two years and why they came to Washington. It would be a town hall style chat and would last about 45 minutes. I would love to make this happen. My info is below and would love to chat when you are free."

Our source speculates this would be more of an "ambush" than a chat. If Sawyer's recent interview with John Boehner is any indication, any freshman GOP member who goes should be prepared to defend not simply his or her own views, but have an opinion on any and every statement made by Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Rush Limbaugh, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell--not to mention birthright citizenship, socialism, the Civil Rights Act, and any other issue that's tripped up Tea Partiers in the past year. In other words, it could make for some interesting TV.

Update: This post initially reported that the segment would be a "45-minute special." An ABC official says that while the town hall would last 45 minutes, only a minute or two would make it on air.

Katie Couric got awards for making Sarah Palin look bad (through insidious editing). I am certain that Ms. Sawyer wants some of those awards for herself.

I wonder if she plans to be sober for the interview?

What you say is very clever, and a great tactic. Unfortunately, it seems that that Republicans don’t do clever.

Too bad she never had BO on for a 45 minute grilling on his Marxism when he was running for President.
Any freshman GOP member who shows up for this shrew’s show is not smart enough to hold his office.

We will soon see which new senator is coming to Washington with the idea that they want to “get along” with the media and”fit in”. Beware of any who show up on her show, they are either stupid or will end up being a CINO.

No doubt edited down from 45 minutes to just the juicy parts.

Juicy: Sucking Tea Party freshmen to disagree with each other on some obscure issue. Then convince us, their supporters, to to take sides and make the obscure issue the litmus test.

Juicy: Trick Tea Party freshmen into saying or doing something stupid, or that appears stupid on pop culture or other non-issue.

Watch a pattern for the next two years:
Someone will have an inarticulate moment when they will say the word “niggardly” or some other banned word. Then it will be demanded of the rest of of to exile that inarticulate person. In every way possible they will try to divide and conquer.

For example, I am more free market capitalist on immigration than some freepers. Other Tea Party people disagree on FAIR tax vs FLAT tax, or on which federal department to eliminate first. The enemy will try to convince us that that one issue on which we disagree is so important that it should be a litmus test to exile others from our movement.

I’d ask Diane:

“Why are liberal women so hateful of Governor Palin? Is it because she’s everything you’re not?”

Conservative women love Palin because she’s one of them.
Conservative men love Palin because she’s the perfect wife and mother who also thinks like a man.
Liberal men hate Palin because she’s more manly than they are.
