Sarah, Do You Think College is Too Elitist for Your Daughter Bristol or Son Track? (Rant Alert)
Hollywood Life ^ | December 22, 2010 | Bonnie Fuller

Posted on 12/22/2010 7:00:44 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Sarah, we know you’re an anti-elitist. Is that why you don’t believe in a college education for your kids? It’s so strange: You went to college, five colleges in fact, before you wrapped up your bachelor of communications degree from the University of Idaho. Your father was a science teacher, your mother was the school secretary, and your brother Chuck is a teacher — so why don’t you EVER promote the value of education even in your own family?

You have no problem speaking out against First Lady Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity campaign for children. That means you don’t even like the idea of Michelle “educating” parents on the dangers of fattening food.

(VIDEO AT LINK)

And having watched every episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, I’ve heard you repeatedly laud ”family values,” the “work ethic” and the importance of taking individual initiative.

These are all great things BUT I’ve never heard you mention the value of education … once.

And I’m wondering if you are shortchanging your own children by not encouraging and enabling them to go to college. Take Bristol, for example – her dreams of going to college to get a nursing degree were cut short by her teen pregnancy at age 17. Then once she had baby Tripp, now 2, she sadly resigned herself to possibly going to a community college to study real estate instead.

And even that was dependent on getting free babysitting from her father Todd, sister Willow and other family members, she said.

Now Sarah, why should her dreams and opportunities be cut short because she was a teen mom? You can afford to send her to college and help her with babysitting or day care costs! It’s estimated that you’ve earned up to $12 million since resigning from your position as Governor of Alaska.

Your books, your speaking engagements, your FoxNews commentating position and your reality show have all raked in big bucks for you. Plus, Bristol may have earned enough from Dancing with the Stars to have at least paid for her own college tuition.

But have you, Sarah, pushed Bristol to do what only two percent of teen moms are able to do — earn a college degree by the age of 30?

There’s absolutely no evidence that the answer to that question is – yes!

So I’m wondering: Are you just too cheap to help Bristol financially, or do you feel that it’s important that Bristol be “punished” for her pregnancy by having college withheld? OR do you truly believe your own propaganda – that an “elitist” college education offers no value for your daughter?

Sarah you certainly aren’t pushing college for your oldest son Track either. After serving a tour in Iraq, you are encouraging him to take up a career as a salmon fisherman, following in the footsteps of his dad, Todd.

I have nothing against fishing as a career, but what’s wrong with a college degree and then fishing. At least he’ll be equipped to transition to another career should salmon fishing go bust.

“It’s important that parents and youths be aware that there are constraints in not having a higher education. If you’re rolling the dice, there are certainly more career choices,” agrees Reed Larson, a professor of human development at the University of Illinois.

If you Sarah aren’t promoting the value of a college education to your own children, you are denying them HUGE opportunities beyond going camping in the wilds of Alaska or dancing their way into our hearts for a reality show season. ”If parents don’t encourage their kids, there is a large possibility that they won’t go to college,” points out Jeff Gardere, a clinical psychologist and host of Dad Camp on Twist TV.

What I’d hate to think is that you, Sarah, see it as politically detrimental to your folksy, down-home image to have your children go to college.

You’ve slammed President Obama repeatedly for being an elitist and now, horrors, you don’t want to be painted as one in any way.

“If there is a brand to support, it’s possible she’d use all facets of her life to promote that brand,” believes psychologist and attorney Sheila Forman.

I’d hate to say that might be the case. But if it’s not, then Sarah Palin– Why don’t you give Bristol an opportunity to have a bigger and more long-term future than just being a reality star?

Pardon my ignorance, but who the heck is this ‘Bonnie Fuller’ and why should I, or Sarah Palin, care what she thinks or says/writes? And exactly what qualifies her to give advice on how other people should raise their children, and/or how grown adults (including a combat veteran) should conduct their educational experience?

Why is it I get the feeling that not only does this peraon not hate thinking it, but is actually quite pleased with themselves for it.

Mini-bio: Fuller, Bonnie Hurowitz

1956 - Bonnie Fuller, born in Toronto, Canada. She was the editor of Flare magazine, YM magazine, the first American edition of Marie Claire magazine, Cosmopolitan magazine, Glamour magazine, and Us Weekly.

Dog-Ugly Canadian liberal Fuller, defending Michelle 0bama's massive arms at HuffPo:

"All those big-mouth Republicans are major Mr. Softies: Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich. Between the bunch of them, they probably wouldn't last five minutes on a treadmill. They are afraid -- Michelle COULD punch them out."

Liberals don’t actually DO anything. They choose professional student as a life choice because they cannot DO anything else. They don’t have the internal fortitude to actually accomplish things so they pool their minimal brain power and spend their time “thinking” of ways to get out of work or have someone else pay for the sh!t.

I have a degree.

I don’t see why I would take people for task for choosing a different route. College isn’t for everyone and that’s a good thing.

But then I’m not a PC zombie...

What is it with Leftists and their reverence for degrees from paper mills?

Oh yeah, it’s the indoctrination that you would miss if you skipped college.

I have 3 college degrees, but I understand that most of them are worthless.

Being a successful salmon fisherman is probably a lot more of an educational experience than going through some lame “liberal arts” education in an American university these days.

If you aren’t going to get a degree in something useful, such as chemistry or some engineering field, then college is mostly a waste of time and money. It is especially a waste if you go into debt to get that paper from the diploma mill.

There’s a reason why men are leaving college and women are going to it in the trends they are today.

One might mention Chelsea Hubbell and Barack's sham marriage, but we're better than that.

Bonnie, looks like you got your nose too close to something that kicks.

It's affected your brain.

“If you want to go study something in the social sciences, or liberal arts, languages, theater, PLEASE, go study it and have a great time for 4 years. Especially if you can afford it. But there will be no job waiting for you afterward, so make sure you took no loans to get there.”

Well I want to teach and they sorta require these ‘degree’ thingys. But sage advice nonetheless.

This rant about how many colleges and how long it took is pretty clueless and also quite elitist!

I came from a family where there was no college fund. I was the first to attend college and it took me awhile to get my degree.

First off I had to work and go to school so it took me three years to complete my AA degree at a community college. I spent the extra time getting the AA vs. just transferring to State University because they would challenge fewer of my classes as transferable if I had the degree.

I attended one year at the State University and was told I could no longer qualify for the grant I once received for my good grades (it helped supplement my wages) because I was not a minority and the rules had changed.

I took off the next year to work and save money and in the Spring of that year took one class at another State University as a trial to see if I liked the subject as a possible career. I found it to be a great fit and made plans to return that Fall.

The program was closed and not accepting new majors, but I signed up for classes I would need for that particular degree despite the major being closed. By my second year I was accepted into the major and on my way. It took me a total of 3 years to work and go to school to complete the BA degree.

So I guess I must be dumber than that hick Sarah... It took me seven years to get my degree instead of the four it would take the elitist ivy league brats who go to school on mommy and daddy's money or grandma's trust fund.

Fuller was born in Toronto to a real-estate lawyer and an elementary school teacher. Her parents' divorce when she was in her teens resulted in serious financial difficulty for her mother and herself. She describes her younger self with "I'm truly geeky ... a Canadian Jewish girl from a dysfunctional family". Fuller now serves as the editorial director of American Media, where she relaunched the former tabloid Star magazine as a glossy magazine. She has written an autobiography concentrating on her career, entitled The Joys of Much Too Much, extolling the virtues of a hectic but full career and home life, over simplicity and tranquility.

No mention of a college degree in this bio. If she DID graduate, she's wasted her life on trivial things like tabloid magazines & trash websites. She has NO room to talk...and shouldn't be anyway - because the Palin kids are none of her business.
