....what about Poly, is it still functioning?...or have blacks run it into the ground too?

Stonewalls, who is old enough to remember when Baltimore was a great city.

Can’t really speak for Poly. As you know, we City Gentlemen never had much to do with the Poly Boys (other than beating them on the now defunct City-Poly Thanksgiving Day Classic). I can’t imagine that Poly is faring much better though. Truth be told (which it, of course, is not) all of Baltimore (other than Hampden and the Inner Harbor doing daylight hours) is now a black hole.

You’re right, when I was a kid, Baltimore was a great, great city.

Apropos of not much, except maybe it is interesting, here is a list of campus clubs at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute:

A Good Yarn
a place for students to learn to knit or crochet, or to improve their skills

Concert Band
to learn and perform classic pieces of band literature. This group performs at schools, churches, assemblies, and competitions.

DDR (Dance Dance Revolution)
a social club that allows students to make new friends, pick up a new hobby, improve coordination skills, and exercise all at the same time.

Debate Team
to prepare arguments for policy debate tournaments sponsored by the Baltimore Urban Debate League (www.budl.org)

Environmental Club

Floetic Lyricists
to create and perform conscious hip-hop lyrics and spoken word poetry

GSA (Gay/Straight Aliance

“It’s Academic”
to encourage acquisition of knowledge through trivia games;
to host on-campus tournaments and interscholastic competition

Jazz Band
to learn the history of jazz; to perform at assemblies, competitions, and guest appearances. Students must be proficient on their instruments; improvisation will be taught and expected.

JCC (Jewish Culture Club)

Marching Flock
to perform during “Pageantry Season” parades, exhibitions, pep rallies and football games

Math Club
to solve Olympiad problems and prepare for math competitions

National Honor Society
to provide tutorial help and to aid selected charitable programs. Community service is required of ALL members

National Society of Black Engineers, Jr. Chapter
to expose students to the many disciplines of engineering and the corporate world. This chapter works with the UMBC and Balto. Metropolitan Alumni Chapter to create a pipeline of preparedness from high school to college to professions in engineering.

Physics Olympics Team
to prepare for and participate in Physics Olympics events

Poly Book Club
to encourage reading for enjoyment and discussion in a community of students and faculty

Poly String Group
to provide instruction and performance opportunities for interested string players

Poly Web Team
to provide current school event articles and pictures for the school website

Robotics Club

SGA (Student Gov’t Association
to represent the student body in school-wide activities

S.H.O.P (Students Helping Other People)

Student Sharing Colatition
To provide opportunities for service and community help

S.T.E.M. Club
to assist Poly students in the pursuit of careers in the rich and rewarding metadiscipline of Science-Technology-Engineering-Math
