Bean bags vs. AK-47s (A MUST READ...BP ALERT)
WND ^ | December 18, 2010 | Tom Tancreado

Another Border Patrol agent on the Arizona border was shot and killed by Mexican drug smugglers last Tuesday. Of the eight attackers, four are in custody and a fifth is under surveillance by Border Patrol Blackhawk helicopters as he tries to make his way back to the Mexican border.

BP Agent Brian Terry was part of a BORTAC team (for border tactical unit) tracking armed drug smugglers 15 miles northwest of Nogales, Ariz., (and only three miles west of Interstate 19) when they were attacked with automatic weapons fire. The area is well-known as a major drug-smuggling corridor, and the smugglers are known to frequently be armed with AK-47s and other long rifles.

Here's the part Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Border Patrol management are trying to hide: Border Patrol Agent Terry and the BORTAC team were under standing orders to always use ("non-lethal") bean-bag rounds first before using live ammunition. When the smugglers heard the first rounds, they returned fire with real bullets, and Agent Terry was killed in that exchange. Real bullets outperform bean bags every time.

The larger, ugly truth Napolitano and senior managers in the Border Patrol want to hide is that the rules of engagement and inadequate weaponry of the Border Patrol place the lives of all agents at grave risk. The National Border Patrol Council, which represents over 15,000 field agents, believes the border is too dangerous for officers to patrol without body armor, armored vehicles and automatic weapons.

Another aspect of this story that is not being reported is that the site of the shooting, Peck Canyon, is inside the area Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., has proposed to designate as the Tumacacori Highlands Wilderness reserve. If Grijalva's bill is enacted into law, …….

The next person in charge should remove all non-lethal weapons and issue lots of live ammo. The rules of engagement should also be changed to allow deadly force if attacked. I would broadcast this change on every media format in English and Spanish. That ought to get their attention.

you know Bush could have pardoned the two BP agents rather than cummuting their sentences and leaving them convicted felons.

Another RINO Globalist.(and still 1000% better than the POSOTUS we are saddled with now.)

I should think it enough to just have their bodyguards to be equipped with bean bag guns- and nothing else.

“Patton knew how to deal w illegals.”

So did Eisenhower. We need a Patton on the border but we’ve got a Janet.

Remove Napolitano from office and issue grenade launchers to the border patrol agents. I don’t mind a few dead Mex drug smuggler bodies littering the border. The stench and flies will serve as a warning to others.

It is time for the National Guard to be placed on the Mexican border.

We need at least 50, 000 troops on the border. This should not be any beg political head ache to the State Dept. Regular Mexican troop patrol the other side. And if it is who gives a crap there is a civil war going on on the Mexican side.

We are being invaded from Mexico it is about time we reacted to that fact.

We had National Guard on the border ... this Administration (in their wisdom) removed the majority of them.

Pity, they are so clueless.

If only Wal-Marts along the border would stop selling full-auto AK-47s to children, then all of this would stop.

I have a very simplistic view of the issue.

If the Federal Government has erected signs telling Interstate travlers not to stop in an area due to drug and criminal activity that area needs to be turned into a free fire zone.

After sunset and prior to sunrise anyone detected on foot in the area should be given one chance to surrender. Failure to do so or firing back results in the immediate application of deadly force.

My logic? Simple if the Federal Government is telling its citizens not to stop for their own safety then the same Federal Government has officially acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. In fact, it has clearly announced that it has lost control of the region.

Could you imagine a piece of the beltway around DC with the same type of signage? How long would it take our rulers, the Congress Critters living inside the Beltway to take immediate action to ensure their personal safety? See the DC sniper incident from several years ago for your answer.

BP agents should be equipped with everything we have deployed in Afghanistan, including body armor, advanced weaponry, night vision, drones with weapons on board. More people died in the Mexico drug war in the last 3 years: 28,000, more than in Iraq or Afghanistan. ROE shoot to kill on sight on American soil, shoot to kill on Mexican soil when American lives are imperiled.... That should cut down the flow of drugs and reduce the number of illegal alien invaders.

What you describe is the US as a failed state in the area of the border.
