The Metrodome,
The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome roof collapsed under the weight of 17.1 inches of snow last night. Leaving the sorry Minnesota Vikings without a home stadium for this week's game against the New York Giants team. The stadium is twenty-eight years old, and can hold over 64,000 fans at any given NFL game.
The Taxes,
Public Policy Polling recently found that 49% of Minnesota voters would rather have the Vikings leave for greener pastures, such as California, than to publicly fund a new stadium with taxpayer dollars via increased taxes. With the stadium situation reaching a zenith of epic proportions with yesterday's snow storm, one must wonder whether the voters will change their minds on public funding.

We can only hope. If not those apparent 49% will be nowhere to be found after the team leaves.
"Well sure I said I didn't care if they left. I didn't think they really would. When can we get another team for 3 times what it would have cost to replace an obsolete and dilapidated building that has allowed us to get by on the cheap for 28 years? Let's form a committee."
They had crews clearing the roof, but they pulled them off Saturday afternoon because it was too windy to work safely. Apparently the roof can accomodate about a foot of accumulation and, in this instance, not 17 inches.
Maybe there are other cities looking for a Pro Football team. I hear Cincinnati and Dallas want one...
Dallas has one, it's TCU.
Remember that the LA Lakers were Orginally from MN.

I know it will never happen...just daydreaming about cutting the tarp off. I have designed two artificial turf fields in recent years - any field can be made to handle moisture with the FieldTurf system...they can sell the HVAC system for scrap to buy new lights :). Heck, probably savings on energy bills alone would pay for new lights. Walking out the revolving doors to that stadium are an experience - you are ‘blown out the door’....I can’t imagine the blowers needed to keep the roof inflated when a game gets out.
I know it will never happen - they get big money hosting NCAA tournaments there...but I can dream.
Well, that's were they got the Lakers from. "Land of 10,000 Lakes", get it?. True story, the Lakers, back in the days of George Mikan, were the Minnesota Lakers. And the Brooklyn Dodgers because the residents of that fair borough were known for dodging trolley cars.
I’m anti-dome myself, but there is a lot to it. If they get a new stadium maybe it’ll be open, probably not though, once teams get hooked on the dome they tend to stay (except Seattle, which makes me respect them at least a little).

I’m just going by what one of the sports talking heads said, after a phone conversation with the Vikes. The Vikings stand to lose alot of gate revenue, and concessions. I’m sure they’re gonna try.
I guess Lakers as in LA-kers does make some sense, it makes a heckuva lot more sense than Utah Jazz, yeah when I think of Satchmo and all those jazz greats, Utah is the first thing that comes to mind. /s
One of the Lions officials was on local radio a few minutes ago and pretty much said the same thin. They are even removing the Lions logo from mid filed and in the end zones and replacing it with the Vikings logo.
Sacrilege! Worst thing since Florida Field hosted the Gator Bowl while the one in Jacksonville was being renovated, and they put the frickin' Tennessee checkerboard in the end zone.
Well, the Jazz were originally the New Orleans Jazz. When they moved from New Orleans, they kept the nickname which makes no sense for another city.

I see no reason for tax payers funding any stadium. There is plenty of money in football for them to finance their own palaces. The tax payer is tapped. The tax payer after paying for the monument to the rich still has to buy a seat license for the right to buy a seat. This is just crazy.

I would not brag too much on the Minnesota voters. They are also the ones who gave us Frankin and Ventura.
