Pat Buchanan: WikiLeaks and Supporters Will Take Down the 'American Empire'(Video)
The Daily Caller ^ | December 13, 2010 | Jeff Poor

We knew what was disclosed by WikiLeaks wasn’t good, but does it mean the end of United States global supremacy?

According to MSNBC’s Pat Buchanan, that will be the fallout from reputed WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s latest document dump and the backlash of his arrest in the United Kingdom. Buchanan offered that dire assessment on the Dec. 12 broadcast of “The McLaughlin Group.”

“What you got is an anarchic attack on American diplomacy,” Buchanan said. “Anarchic attack – by young people, very talented, want to destroy America’s position and destroy America diplomacy and frankly disarm America.”

“Bank of America is terrible. Anyone stupid enough to do business with them pretty much deserves it.”

I opened an account with them briefly more than five years ago, and it is still giving me grief. BoA should be criminally investigated for fraud. Too many errors, which always work to their advantage.

Pat needs to take a seat next to Ralph Nader in that Great Padded Cell of our political discourse...

Make no mistake about it -- the U.S. is an "empire" in every sense of the word. No, we don't conquer foreign lands and lord over them as our possessions . . . but we expend enormous resources engaging in military campaigns all over the globe for the sole purpose of maintaining a global business climate with the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency.

I read somewhere recently that U.S. Customs has personnel in something like 120 countries around the world -- for the sole purpose of supporting safe, efficient trade with the U.S. That is a clear indicator of an "empire," in my opinion.

You wrote: “we have committed to all of the military and economic obligations of an empire, with none of the dividends.”

Right you are, and that is the point Buchanan was trying to make. I really don’t understand why so many folks here are getting upset by that.

Since 1945, the USA has felt it necessary to have a presence all over the globe. Well, if you have troops here there and everywhere, you’ve got an empire.

One can make an argument that the USA is doing this for all the right reasons.

But every overstreached “empire” has eventually fallen. It’s just too expensive, and it distracts from problems close to home.

That is what Buchanan is warning about.

inevitable...IMHO...if not Assange now...somebody else then/when.

The Western Democracies face a similar threat from the modern information age as did the European Monarchs 100 years ago from the telephone.

The debt required by the Western Democracies is a measure of their lack of utility to the world.

The more “global” our government and economy becomes (like the Fed bailing out foreign banks and our troops being used upon the decisions of the UN and UN taxation globalists want to enact, free trade agreements, etc.) the more we are an empire ruling over the world. (Add to this what our government officials want but have not gotten yet - UN taxation on fuel and financial deals, a global currency, a global court with global law that supercedes our law, etc.)

Multi-culturalism is a mini UN set up where a bunch of foreign tribes compete for the American government to shower favors on their foreign markets, people and lands.

They call our president “the leader of the free world”! Sounds like an Emperor to me!
