Children need traditional families more than feminists

Reality: Children need tradition. In fact, I’d go so far as to argue that they need it more than moneyed feminists, with Volvos.

Over at The Future of Children blog (a collaboration of The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and The Brookings Institution) Lauren Moore supports the view that tradition liberates us from government’s paternalistic chains.

“As The Future of Children: Fragile Families journal explains, fragile families - defined as couples who are unmarried when their children are born - face greater risks than more traditional families, which can have negative consequences on child wellbeing,” states Moore.

“Simply put, stable, two parent homes have greater monetary and emotional resources to support their children's development. And in the United States, marriage has the greatest chance of achieving relationship stability which leads to stability for children.”

Moore again draws our eyes to the connection between family traditions and economic health. Australians take note: “While a growing number of Americans may view marriage as a dying institution, its benefits for children are clear. As our nation's poverty rate continues to climb, preventing and strengthening fragile families will become increasingly important.”

Who (day and night) must scramble for a living, feed a wife and children, say his daily prayers?

No, feminists need traditional families as much as children do.

I have always thought that “Feminists” who needed to prove their equality evidently married the wrong man. The right man would know his wife’s worth, and the importance of being a good mother and working together in harmony to raise their family.

To me being a mother is one of the most important and challenging jobs on earth.

Who better to make sure their children eat healthy food, learn how to share, respect for others and their property than a mother, at home, every day.

The basic building blocks for a good citizen are learned very early. How can a day-care worker provide that?

Some women are raising their kids alone not by choice but by circumstances. However, by spending as much time as they can with their children and talking to them, teaching them and setting a good example they can raise wonderful, respectful kids. Sitting them in front of a TV or a video game is not the answer.

I think that a lot of people nowadays are self-centered and child rearing comes second to their own desires.

We see the results of this: children are turning to drugs, crime and sexual activity at a much earlier age. Pushing the boundaries of civil society to get attention, to belong, to fit in because there was a lack of that at home.

Hollywood and the music industry glorify all the wrong things. Being materialistic, promiscuity, the drug culture, thuggish behavior, rebelling against authority are all “cool” or “progressive.”

There is no substitute for a stable, loving family. Because at the end of one’s life it will not matter how important you were at work, or how much “stuff” you have.

The mark you leave on this earth is the people you leave behind and the love and caring that you shared.

“No, feminists need traditional families as much as children do.” I see what you mean, but I see children as more vulnerable than grownup adults, with money. For example, a single 40-something feminist can kick her lover out the house, whereas a child has little say in family structure.

30 Moves: Great points. Especially this one: “The basic building blocks for a good citizen are learned very early. How can a day-care worker provide that?”

It’s a very poorly written headline.

How about "Children need traditional families more than they need feminists"
Is that what you're trying to say? If not then please accept my apology. If you're trying to say "Children need traditional families more than feminists need traditional families" then I suppose you could leave it as it is.
