Why Palin Should Run
ConservativeHQ. ^ | December 2, 2010 | Richard A. Viguerie

Posted on 12/02/2010 6:13:12 PM PST by onyx

‘Morning Joe’ Scarborough’s scathing piece on Sarah Palin in Politico, rather than discouraging a run by Palin for President in 2012, may have convinced more conservatives she should run.

Joe Scarborough’s stated concerns include how Palin drew a comparison between the disparagement of her and Ronald Reagan, which is a fair assessment by Palin, and her polite but firm retort to former First Lady Barbara Bush’s comment that Palin should stay in Alaska.

Sarah Palin is the Republican “it” girl right now because she yields no ground to establishment types, bluebloods, political consultants, media elites and all those who contributed to the political and moral deterioration of the Republican Party.

Palin was ahead of the curve in taking on the GOP establishment, which is why she is a Tea Party favorite. She is now what Ronald Reagan said in 1976 we needed in our leaders: those who are unfettered by old ties and old relationships.

If Palin were to run, even if she didn’t win she would unquestionably transform the GOP primary for the better. Her mere force of presence would require Republican contestants to address issues they otherwise wouldn’t -- in ways they otherwise wouldn’t.

In a time when the GOP teeters between returning to its constitutional small-government roots and remaining the party of Democrat-lite, Palin has a confluence of several appeals that most other prospective GOP candidates lack. Add to that her Tea Party credentials, and she’s hands-down a bigger big-tent prospective candidate than Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich and others frequently named.

Most importantly, Palin is a boat rocker who isn’t afraid to say the Republican Party needs to move in a direction it hasn’t even debated in over a decade, and actually shrink the size of the federal government.

The best thing for the GOP may be a presidential primary field that includes not only Palin, but Jim DeMint, Mike Pence and one or two other conservatives who don’t toe the establishment GOP line.

Ronald Reagan’s biggest initial obstacles came from within the Republican Party itself. He didn’t become the transformational figure in the GOP we now know him to be based his first run for the presidency.

Reagan’s ability to lead by identifying issues of importance to people was remarkably similar to Sarah Palin’s. Those attempting to tear her down may be kicking up more than they bargain for.

Richard A. Viguerie is the Chairman of ConservativeHQ.

You’re right. Vetting is done and over-done. We know more about her than anyone else in politics. I agree with you. There is no chance of her morphing into a RINO. If anything, I would venture to guess that she more Right-wing than I am and I’m hard core...lol. I would love for her to be the POTUS appointing Justice Kennedy’s replacement, and Ginsberg’s and, all the retiring justices from 2013 through her two terms!

I saw Viguerie on CSPAN awhile go and he know what he’s talking about.

Viguerie set-up and ran Reagan’s direct mail campaign.

"If Palin were to run, even if she didn’t win she would unquestionably transform the GOP primary for the better. Her mere force of presence would require Republican contestants to address issues they otherwise wouldn’t -- in ways they otherwise wouldn’t."

It is time that the American public had their heads pulled out of the sand with their acceptance of the Democrat Party and their socialistic vision for this nation. It is time we mount a war by transforming the Republican mission to send all vestiges of the Democrat Party into the ash heap of history.

Viguerie was in on the ground floor of the conservative movement of the '60s. He ran the direct mail campaign for Young Americans for Freedom.
Separate from the Republican Party, an intellectual and political "conservative movement" was developing, though still in the nascent stages. In 1960, the Young Americans for Freedom was founded. Richard, Viguerie, just starting his direct mail company, wrote to Reagan asking him to sign fundraising letters for YAF. Weeks passed with no reply, and Viguerie forgot about it until one day when he opened his mail. Viguerie found a crumpled copy of his letter to Reagan with a note from Reagan saying he would be delighted to help out. Reagan then sheepishly explained that he had found the letter in his son's toy box."

-- Craig Shirley, "Reagan's Revolution", pp. 40-41

Nice anecdote from Craig Shirley's book on the 1976 campaign.

The PDS freaks seem to be everywhere and pop up on threads here that are not even related and somehow that comes into play. Sheese. They are everywhere. She must be over the target.

That’s right. Sarah Palin doesn’t mince words and the others would be hard pressed to waltz around her with tame words to describe their “friends across the aisle” while she’s describing what’s really happening with the Marxist democrats.

It’s a great point. We need her to run to keep the other lame-ass candidates’ feet to the fire. It will turn into a Barry love-fest without her.

She’d be nuts not to run. Even if she lost, the next time out in 2016 she’d be “former presidential candidate” which is a very effective title when combined with her other title as former Governor. That, plus whatever she did between ‘12 and ‘16, would bring her standing up a lot higher with the mainstream public.

Having said that, I do believe IF things go her way she can begin work as our 45th president on January 20, 2013.

Interesting column from 2006.
I guess he ate his words this year:
“I’ve never seen conservatives so downright fed up as they are today.”

Everyone is noticing. I hope Jim is noticing, also, because I’m receiving complaints and mail asking ‘why is this allowed?’ They’re running wild using lamestream-demonicrat talking points. Amazing.

Along with the fact she has a proven track record of getting results in government, this is the major reason I am supporting her for president. The cesspool that is Washington DC needs her and a host of others like her to clear out the garbage.

If you get a chance check out Cspan and see if you can find the video of Viguerie talking about the new media. He knows his stuff. Sarah’s name was never mentioned (I think) but I got impression Sarah fit the bill as to what he was talking about. It was a panel discussion.
