My Way, Dammit!

America has become politically polarized to a degree I never thought I'd see. We've reached a point where the old "Us versus Them" attitude between the political left and right is nearing open warfare. Whether it's one of the New Black Panthers intimidating potential Republican voters at the polls or a Tea Partier putting his foot on the neck of a counter-protester, the signs are obvious: America is becoming a dangerous place.

We've labeled and categorized ourselves and each other. We've divided ourselves into inimical groups and occupy ourselves with hateful and fruitless pursuits, each group trying to discredit the other. We are no longer just citizens with differing opinions. We are a nation of mindless ideologues, each of us intent upon shouting down anyone else who might have a different opinion. People show up at protests with little idea of the hard facts (if any exist) regarding what they're protesting. And read the comments following op/eds on websites that support comments. The utter ignorance and hate (and poor spelling / grammar) are disheartening to say the least.

Now I'm gonna go outside and hug the first liberal I find. If it doesn't hug me back, I'll kill it. ;-)

Besides the hilarious and completely erroneous effort at equating the non-stop evil behavior of the Left with miniscule evidence of bad behavior on the right, this is just more nonsense from a moderate and probably a RINO to boot!

The right has been rolling over for years, and now the left is upset because people have had enough of their insanity. Polarized is good, real good if it helps restore America’s greatness.

The leftists have destroyed the country and doomed countless millions to poverty and death...and we are supposed to show them tolerance and understanding? **** that.

The article (me being “this idiot”) said:
“Our loyalties should rest with our nation as a whole, not to some group formed in your neighbor’s garage over beer and pretzels. The guide to how those loyalties should be applied is found solely in the Constitution of the United States. “

You probably just missed that part. ;-)

We as a people must swallow our misplaced pride and disavow our misguided loyalties and again learn how to work together. Our loyalties should rest with our nation as a whole, not to some group formed in your neighbor's garage over beer and pretzels. The guide to how those loyalties should be applied is found solely in the Constitution of the United States.

Quite true.

However, one of the parties he talks about is attempting to ignore, if not destroy, the Constitution, while the other reveres it and is attempting to revive it.

How in the world Party B is supposed to be able to compromise with Party A is quite beyond me.

Curious that you would post here after the nasty anti-Romney rant last week.

As for being what you are, if you are neither hot nor cold I will spew you out of my mouth. Be something and be proud of what you are.

Long ago a curious political creature arrive on the American scene. It was called a MUGWUNP, not matter which side of the fence you stood on, you could see both its Mug(face) and its wump(polite for a$$).

What would I want to compromise with Jeremiah Wright, Bernadine Dhorn, Bill Ayers, David Duke, or any of the Islamo fascist jerks like Ahmadinejhad?

Evil is evil, wickedness is to be abhorred!

Not every liberal is hell-bent to wreck the country. You have to remember that most Americans want a lot of the same things for the country, but differ on how to attain them. No sensible person, liberal or otherwise, would attempt to reason with an extremist from either side of the “fence.” But sensible people of differing political philosophies can and should learn to work together. As long as we continue to push against each other, we accomplish nothing. You see the evidence of it all around us. The left and right keep hammering away, and the nation keeps going down the toilet. Since the pushing and shoving obviously isn’t working, don’t you think it’s time to try something else?

What you are promoting in this blog is nothing but moral cowardice.

Every time someone has tried to compromise or appease malicious dictators (and their supporters), it has ALWAYS resulted in the same thing: the enslavement and/or death of millions

Our current communist rulers are just as corrupt as the others. The only differences are their tools and methods.

Keep half the constitution, steal half our money, and enslave half our people LOL!

“Mugwump” Your definition is very creative.
However: http://www.answers.com/topic/mugwump

Romney is a dependable, moderate, GOP leader.
That’s the worst thing I can think of to call him.

Being essentially center-right, I get along with everyone but the most extreme from either side. I know a number of lefties who STILL scream about how Bush should be in prison, or Bush caused 9/11, etc. Those are not the people we can reason with. But many on the left want a lot of what we want. It’s the means, not the end, that we need to work on.

I’m seeing a lot of posts here (not yours) that reflect the same pig-headedness I referred to in my blog post. Someone has to be the first one to blink. Someone has to be willing to compromise. At some point, reasonable people have to come together and work out our differences. If we can do that, we can solve most of our problems and drag the extremists on the left and right (kicking and screaming, most likely) along with us.

Hmmm, the Left wants to use force to enslave me, and I am willing to use force to prevent it. I guess that passes now as moral equivalency.

No clue what you’re talking about. I like Romney, and I haven’t posted here since Nov. 3rd. You’ve confused me with someone else.
