It's a circus.
Charlie Rangel kills his parents and then throws himself at the mercy of the Court because he is an orphan.
OK, not exactly but metaphorically.
Charlie Rangel walked out of his ethics trial yesterday morning.
Complaining bitterly that he was denied the right to have an attorney present, an emotional Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) walked out of his highly publicized public ethics trial Monday morning, an unexpected twist in the ethics inquiry that has tarnished Rangels four-decade congressional career.
But Rangel DID have legal representation. He fired them.
Popularity aside, the Harlem Democrats coffers seem to have dried up. He has said publicly that he had to fire the prestigious law firm hired to defend him because he ran out of money.
Ran out of money. And there's the rub. Out of whose money did he run out? His campaign account's money.
Rangel has paid the law firm more than $1.4 million from his campaign account, according to Federal Election Commission records.
And apparently the campaign account is dry. Now Rangel faces a future he has never known. A future utterly foreign to him. A brutally cold, hostile world.
The world in which you have to pay for things on your own.
The real world.
He got all the advice he needed from the Ethics Committee.

So what if he is convicted? He can just run for re-election and win again.
convicted on 11 of 13 counts. Man, he has got one mean hand-slapping coming his way.
And what does any of this mean to Rangel - NOTHING. They won’t kick him out, and his constituents won’t vote him out. So rather than “reality bites Charlie Rangel in the ass” The headline should read “In reality ass Charlie Rangel is unaffected by ethics committee.”
“If Rangel is found guilty on any of the counts, the full ethics committee will have to decide what punishment to impose. The sanctions can run from a letter of reproval all the way up to expulsion from the House.”
#####
Sounds like they have all the authority of the Junior High Student Council.
The question is will Racist Rangel be prosecuted by anyone with REAL punishment powers?
>>>convicted on 11 of 13 counts. Man, he has got one mean hand-slapping coming his way.
He could even face censure. Which is like the UN Security council issuing a resolution saying “Stop! Or we’ll tell you to stop again!”.
If he’s out of money, he can liquidate his place in Bermuda for a couple Grand.
This was all arranged before-hand. Rangel feigns a hissy and leaves. The Committee then accepts all evidence as proof and, magically...
there is no circus of arguments or witnesses; nothing the incoming Pubbies can use to their advantage. All over. Nice and quiet.
Conveniently, since there is no circus, there is no indignant outrage from either side of the aisle. The committee will be able to slap Charlie's wrist and no one will complain.
Charlie will do just fine. He’s special.
The smart ones won't even say hello to him in the cloak room anymore...
What should happen?
He should be tossed in jail and forced to pay restitution for the money he stole as well as for funds misused.
What is likely to happen?
He gets a slap on the wrist, a letter of reprimand put in his file and life goes on as if nothing happened.
Just another scene in the long-running D.C. political theater production of “You Can Fool Most of the People Most of the Time.” Same cast, same script, nothing’s real except the negative impact they make on our lives. After strutting around making important-sounding noises, all the players — including Rangel — will hit their old marks and play-acting will resume.
Yep. Now they will vote to send him a letter of reprimand and that will be it.
