A report posted today at a CNN website claims the "mystery missile launch" on Monday was actually a Chinese missile test. According to the report:
China flexed its military muscle Monday evening in the skies west of Los Angeles when a Chinese Navy Jin class ballistic missile nuclear submarine, deployed secretly from its underground home base on the south coast of Hainan island, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from international waters off the southern California coast. WMRs intelligence sources in Asia, including Japan, say the belief by the military commands in Asia and the intelligence services is that the Chinese decided to demonstrate to the United States its capabilities on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Tokyo, where President Obama is scheduled to attend during his ten-day trip to Asia.
However, the report - placed on CNN's user-generated iReport site - has yet to be vetted or confirmed by CNN, and is full of un-named, unquoted sources. The only link provided goes to a site with basically the same report - again, with no corroboration.
The source of the report is one Wayne Madsen, who once claimed Wikileaks was a CIA operation, and that Al-Qaeda was a front for the military-industrial complex.
No other news organization is reporting the incident as part of a Chinese missile test at this time.
A much less sinister explanation is provided by a site called "Contrail Science".
According to a report at that site, the CBS camera crew probably captured Flight AWE808 from Hawaii to Phoenix, and the perspective of the the viewer made the contrail appear to be a ballistic missile being launched, possibly, from a submarine.
The site reports a very similar incident:
An interesting contrail cropped up off the coast of San Clemente, Orange County, California on December 31st 2009. The curious shape led.......
Use your head, man. An impotent president is 10,000 miles from home, the Fed has just printed $600 billion of paper that look s like US Dollars, China holds our debt, and this happens.
That's called a shot across our bow where I come from.
It was a weather balloon. Go back to watching Dancing With The Stars.
Something tells me that yes it was ours, and it was a snapshot launch, and I think it wasn’t timed for any political leverage, I think it was done to take out a possible very dangerous piece of orbital hardware, something that if it hit in a populated area would have caused major damage.
I’m actually thinking of the movie “Space Cowboys” except we decided we had to shoot something down now and then keep quiet about it.
There is still an unknown amount of birds we have launched with payloads of radioactive fuels aboard. Or worse.
Oh for Heavens’ Sake!
Is this silly debate really going to be another 100+ comments on a thread?
You are a patient debater?
Post the images or a video of the same plane leaving the same contrail. Otherwise you are just typing on a keyboard.
Between 8 and 8:30 my wife takes a bath which means a 30 minutes of debate time with all the keyboard experts.
Then, back to real life..
Think about it. The US is not omnipotent, especially with the espionage of the past 25 years and the treason of the Clinton administration.
After being here for ten years, and having seen every weird thing imaginable pop up here, you still think that?
Geeez, what a nervous Nellie. Relax. This discussion is no weirder than the UFO threads that get posted.
Except (1) Russia has the same missle-detecting satellites we do and would have raised a fuss. (2) Whoever owns the sattelite would raise a fuss. (3) If that was what happened, even if the US wanted to lie about it they could say “Yes, we were conducting a military training exercise in the area”.
Best post of the thread! Thank you!
Indeed. I hear they are working on having a same sex couple next season.
This is frame 446 of the video. You can see an object (helicopter) moving in towards the missile trail from the right. On close examination (and we can blow the frame up a bit more without losing all def), it appears to be a Chinook. I believe those are sometimes used in anti-sub missions.
As for anyone getting a sub in there: don't be silly. Piece of cake for anyone having a silent diesel of the modern kind. Like that Swedish item the navy is leasing to try to learn to find.
I thought you had already said your last word?

And if it had been an old CCCP satellite with spent nuclear fuel? The Russkies response, after we shot it down, would be to send the finest bottles of vodka to our NORAD generals.
I tell you what, I know we have the best of the best but I also know Obama has been drilling holes in the dikes so to speak. The Chinese should NOT be underestimated, nor the Russians but I also believe they will side with us in the long run.
I can also visualize the possibility that we have so much of a superior edge that we knew where, when what depth and how many farted per hour on a submerged boat.
But when you have a dangerous anti-american POTUS there is also the possibility that our Armed Forces may “neglect” to inform the high and mighty of such events. And I hope they continue to do so!
unless it was diesel-electric
Okay...
1. 787 Dreamliner had smoke in the rear cabin from an electrical fire. Seems to be the only plane so afflicted, and being that it was a Boeing test mule, how reasonable is it that it was a quality control problem with the electronics suite?
2. The Carnival cruise line split an engine block. That's why they lost power. Mechanical failure.
3. People on the Carnival ship were using their cell phones to communicate to their families back home. By now, you'd think you'd have heard if 50% of the people on that ship now report that their cell phones are mysteriously fried.
4. The Carnival ship was off Baja California, and the 787 Dreamliner was flying near Laredo Texas. Those two locations are about 800 miles from one another. They're the only two affected by this phantom EMP device, but the entirety of Mexico and the California coastline weren't?
5. The 787 Dreamliner landed at 2:54pm Central time. This contrail was captured on tape at about sundown (5:30pm) on Pacific time. That's five hours difference. The Carnival ship's power went out at 6am on Monday, Pacific time. That's about 36 hours from the sighting of the contrail the next day in the same time zone.
