A report posted today at a CNN website claims the "mystery missile launch" on Monday was actually a Chinese missile test. According to the report:
China flexed its military muscle Monday evening in the skies west of Los Angeles when a Chinese Navy Jin class ballistic missile nuclear submarine, deployed secretly from its underground home base on the south coast of Hainan island, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from international waters off the southern California coast. WMRs intelligence sources in Asia, including Japan, say the belief by the military commands in Asia and the intelligence services is that the Chinese decided to demonstrate to the United States its capabilities on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Tokyo, where President Obama is scheduled to attend during his ten-day trip to Asia.
However, the report - placed on CNN's user-generated iReport site - has yet to be vetted or confirmed by CNN, and is full of un-named, unquoted sources. The only link provided goes to a site with basically the same report - again, with no corroboration.
The source of the report is one Wayne Madsen, who once claimed Wikileaks was a CIA operation, and that Al-Qaeda was a front for the military-industrial complex.
No other news organization is reporting the incident as part of a Chinese missile test at this time.
A much less sinister explanation is provided by a site called "Contrail Science".
According to a report at that site, the CBS camera crew probably captured Flight AWE808 from Hawaii to Phoenix, and the perspective of the the viewer made the contrail appear to be a ballistic missile being launched, possibly, from a submarine.
The site reports a very similar incident:
An interesting contrail cropped up off the coast of San Clemente, Orange County, California on December 31st 2009. The curious shape led.......
Oops. That would be post #417. Sorry about the mistake.
Thanks for the info. Some of that probably has to do with the Cruise Ship that was disabled, but we now have reports of unusual military aircraft activity off the coast of Cali.

um ... there was a chinese sub that surfaced in the middle of a air craft carrier battle group a couple months ago. IN THE MIDDLE!
The news crew filmed the contrail/plume for 10 minutes. How many missiles only move a little in 10 minutes? The picture shows a distant plane with a contrail that goes back perhaps a hundred miles towards the horizon. It's an optical illusion that makes it look like a missile launch. The exact same airline flight from Hawaii was filmed the next day making the same type of contrail.
Yeah. I dropped the video into my editor and examined it, it didn’t take me long assure myself that it wasn’t a flight to PHX.
I’m going to lean that it was ours but as long the military refuses to say “it’s our sekrit project”...I’ll remain open to the idea that it someone else’s ‘sekrit’.
The concept of this being signal to the ‘Won’ is plausible to me. A surprise boomer already heading away from the US would be more confusing than threatening to those who were noticing it. Obama and the left cannot go public if this were true, nobody wants leftist politics when there is clear and present danger.
I spent much of my life doing things others said I couldn’t do. If it was foreign power that did this, I admire their ingenuity and brass balls.
From what i understand yes, but they then may have to shoot you.
LOL
US cruise missiles for one. Also the new Iranian anti-ship missile that can be launched from a sub also appears to be slow. You do not need speed when you can fly under the radar. Also, that missile was arcing westward, if you look at the lighting affects, heading away from the camera. We do not know what type of missile it was or even if it was functioning correctly.
Iran has test-fired a sea-launched ballistic missile, according to classified U.S. intelligence reports, which could be used in a devastating stealth attack against the United States or Israel for which the United States has no known or planned defense.
The reports, which are well-known to the White House but have not been disseminated to the appropriate congressional committees, detailed the test-firing by Iran of a short-range surface-to-surface missile last spring from a barge in the Caspian Sea.

We may never know the truth. But we now have the government employing its typical disinformation technique where a leftist nutcase leaks a true story just so the story can be ridiculed and marginalized. In the past they have used Michael Rivero and Art Bell/Coast to Coast, so that tells me that this story from a lefty CNN blogger actually has a possibility of being the truth. And we might be witnessing the government telling us the truth in its normal corrupt manner. My 2 cents anyway.
I only saw a :52 second video and half of the total contrail was laid down in that time. Where is the 10 minute video?
The source seems to be Wayne Madsen who is not at all credible. This guy has been a left wing nutcase for many years.
Iran would be a prime candidate. And with a large helo heading for the launch location fast, it looks like a hurried effort the neutralize a sub.
There are a couple things that confuse me about the airplane theory.
First of all, if you look at a map and draw a direct line between Honolulu and Phoenix, the first place that line touches the North American continent is the very northern part of Baja California. Assuming that US Airways would want to stay out of Mexican airspace, it seems more logical that the flight plan would take the plane over San Diego, rather than Los Angeles. Not only would Los Angeles be out of the way because it is latitudinally north of Phoenix, but Los Angeles has one of the busiest airspaces in the world. Why would a plane that wasn't going to land in LA fly over LA, especially if it would add to its' flight time and distance? And, while I realize the US Airways route map is probably not the most accurate depiction of their flight plans, it does show their non-stop flights from Honolulu to Phoenix passing over San Diego, not Los Angeles. Has anyone from US Airways confirmed that Flt 808 flies over LA?
Second, the photographer who filmed the footage said the object flew off towards the northwest. That would mean it flew away from the city, not over it, and certainly not to Arizona.
Third, there has been a lot of speculation that the verticle flight of the object was an optical illusion because the object was actually flying towards the camera. Yet that theory contradicts the photographer's report that the object flew northwest. In addition, if the object was flying from west to east (towards the photographer), we should have seen two contrails. I've never seen a commercial aircraft fly overhead with only one contrail.
Bottom line, I don't believe for a second it was US Airways Flt 808.
I really wish you nutcases claiming ten minutes of video would bother to watch the actual video. Not that it would make any difference, probably.
Crazy Ivan! We’ve seem his movie before, eh?
Here is a map of where flight 808 was supposed to be at 5:00 PM PST.
However, the video was taken at 5:15. One would think a jet would cover the 35 miles from Catalina Island in less than 15 minutes. Plus leave a contrail all the way to the coast and beyond.

RAW VIDEO: Mysterious Contrail Off Calif.Lorrie Laible
I find it intersting that no one claims to know about this. Yesterday we were returning from Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines with an arrival time of 3:25 pm at LAX. Approximately 270 miles away our pilot came on the speaker and told us we would be rerouted over Big Sur California due to military maneuvers in our path. Maybe they should speak with the pilot of our flight.

I wonder what direction and what level was any jet stream near that course, or any unusual colder than normal temperatures.
And one more item, we need an actual picture of the aircraft, to see what color its fuselage is. Was it polished aluminum?
