Apple confirms MacBook Air bugs internally

The sleek new MacBook Air models unveiled late last month are the slimmest computers Apple has ever produced but the manufacturer still managed to find the space to pack in a few troublesome bugs. Early MacBook Air adopters have taken to various forums as they voice complaints surrounding Apples new MacBook Air (Late 2010) models. While Apple has yet to address any of the reported issues publicly, a source informed BGR that the manufacturer is investigating several of them internally. Included among the issues is a bug where the display flickers or shows horizontal lines of varying colors when a computer wakes from sleep or after hot-plugging a display. Another bug causes the screen to fade from light to dark repeatedly after waking from sleep. Apples internal support system includes suggestions for interim fixes in each of these cases, but no permanent fixes are available at this time.

At first it was dismissed as just a few people with minor problems; now it looks like there is a flaw in the design of the Macbook Air where even reviewers are getting screen and display problems. Oops!
My guess is an overheating graphics processor - they stuck too much GPU (to compensate for the underpowered C2D processor) in there for so little cooling, and it's probably running too hot, causing all kinds of little errors and glitches.

Shouldn’t swordmaker have posted this so he can tell us how it is FUD and “no big deal”?

Maybe another Apple device rushed to market too early?

Why not just spring for a few hundred more and get a MacBook Pro?

- they stuck too much GPU (to compensate for the underpowered C2D processor) in there for so little cooling, In this case they needed to go with a Core 2 Duo because it is an ultra low-voltage, small form-factor processor that only puts out maybe 10W. None of the Core i series use that little power (an i5 is closest at almost twice the wattage), so the combination of Core 2 Duo and 320M (Apple's low-end Core 2 GPU) surely produces less heat than a Core i-series version.

Why not just spring for a few hundred more and get a MacBook Pro? Size. Ultra-portables is an expensive market.

Too early to tell.
It could be large scale component failure, such as Dell had with one of their suppliers a few years back.

I did a lot of work on miniaturization of electronics. Sooner or later you reach the point of trying to cram six pounds in a four pound bag. Never works...

I doubt that. This is a wake from sleep issue when the components are cold not over heated. If it were a cooling issue, it would rear it's ugly head after running for awhile, not when it's starting up on a warm awakening.

I so agree. While I admire many technologies; they should possibly slow up a bit and test these products before marketing them.
That goes for everything.

The problem supposedly occurs upon awaking from sleep. Would the processor be overheated at that point?

Why did you not post the entire article which included a report that Apple HAS isolated the
software cause of the issue and a fix will be released and ALSO. Post the easy temporary way to make the issue stop:

Puget, why did you not post the entire article which included one more short paragraph which included the statement that Apple HAS isolated the
software cause of the issue and a fix will be released and ALSO. Post the easy temporary way to make the issue stop?p>
"Apple has stated internally that the aforementioned issues have been isolated and will be addressed in an upcoming software update. When dealing with customers, Apple employees have been instructed to state that the company is aware of these issues and is working on solutions. . ."

I may have missed it, but there does it say SOFTWARE CAUSED the issue? It could be hardware related but they use software to work-around the issue.
For example, it could happen if the GPU is overheated and the software fix is to slow down the CPU when it gets to X temp or to run the fan quicker.
