Gov. Chris Gregoire looked at the resounding rejection of tax measures in this state and dropped her head.
"I don't have a path forward to be honest with you," Gregoire told KING 5.
Voters across all 39 counties in Washington state rejected Initiative 1098, the measure concerning establishing a state income tax.

The state deficit is at $4.5 billion. Gregoire told KIRO Radio's Ross and Burbank Show that the voters decisions Tuesday night means the state must cut another $220 million in the next two years.

"I don't think this is taking out a pair of scissors and cutting around the edge. I think this is cut the entire program," said Gregoire. "I think a budget is a reflection of the values of the people of this state. The people I think have to ask, 'Do we value children's education? Do we value preschool? Do we value higher education?' I'm in the process of dismantling everything that I've tried to do over the last six years."
To those who say the solution is as simple as cutting programs, she says show me the way.
"I'm going to take the opponents of 1098 who said there was a better way and say let's craft that better way."

Any plans for you, your Cabinet, any state legislators OR their staffs to be taking out-of-state or out-of-country trips? FORGET IT! If it's necessary, teleconfrence! Otherwise, you stay here and govern!
Any programs to feed, educate, house, or provide medical services for the thousands of illegal aliens infesting this state? CUT 'EM! Not one PENNY more! And then tell them to get their sorry asses back across whatever border they came from!
Any un-needed, wasteful spending, like...oh I don't know...the new deep-bore Waterfront Tunnel in Seattle, or the expansion of the 520 floating bridge, or the subsidies for the Amtrak Cascade train? CUT 'EM! We don't need ANY of it!!
The only things you DON'T cut are stuff for public safety, like the State Patrol, the prisons, and the mental health facilities (let's keep the loonies LOCKED UP and safely OFF our streets).
And if you REALLY can't figure out what to do now that you don't have OUR money to play with, you dried-up old hag...then here's a capital suggestion: Find a nice, big pen and a clean, white sheet of paper, draft a LETTER OF RESIGNATION and SIGN IT!!!! If you can't do the damn job, find someone who can!! Better yet, if Dino Rossi DOESN'T get elected as our Senator, why don't you give the job to him...LIKE SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN 2004, YOU CRONE!!!!!
You don’t have a plan....then get hell out of the way!
Today is Jim Robinsons birthday..If you havent donated to FR today would be a good day to do so.

May I suggest the Yukon? It's more north than forward, but it's still a great option. For us, anyway.
I'll be happy to... let me pay you a visit, we'll go over the budget line by line... I'm certain I can help.
Perhaps she should call Christie in NJ for ideas. Hoagy’s ideas here are also good.
Dino Rossi would certainly have had a plan going foward. Sorry Fraudeoire that you couldn’t steal more taxes just like elections.

It’s like Dracula trying to walk into the sunlight.
Did the GOP pick up any seats in the state house/senate?
Obama/Feds have been bailing out CA, IL and possibly NY and NV. I think the House can stop that now.
Education is the liberals biggest work horse...in their minds one cannot spend enough on it. Baloney we need to start the cuts at the biggest source...education is no different.
We said, hoagy62, we said.
I'm so sick of this. I'm sick of the implication that only state or federal government can educate our children. Get the state and the feds out of the picture and let the local school districts develop and run their own programs.
There, Christine. Problem solved.
Is that you or some Union sponges asking that question Christine?
The only answer democrats ever have is tax hikes! FUCG!
Well said.
Reduce State salaries by 25%. If anybody quits and finds a productive job in the Washington state economy, so much the better.
I believe so.
First they came for the millionaires...
