They could at least SAY something about it.

But I bet you’ll hear not a word about this from official Catholic sources, particularly in the US, but even in Rome. They’re too busy being “ecumenical” (ignoring the fact that this word covers only other Christian churches and not Muslims) and left-wing. It’s forbidden to speak honestly of Islam, remember?

The Synod of Eastern Rite Bishops got a lot of criticism for their anti-Israel statement (although it actually did not sum up their talks, but basically was the summary by an AMERICAN Greek-Rite bishop). But what is worse is that in their statement, they were actually very objective and firm about Islam, its proseletysing by violence and force, its attempts to exterminate Christians, its violation of human rights, etc. But this appeared only in the first transcripts that came out.

When the official version, as edited by Fr. Lombardi, was published, virtually all negative references to Islam had been removed. The statement was meaningless.

_____________

We discussed this in our Sunday School class yesterday. You’re absolutely right: ecumenical has come to mean saying every religion is equally valid and true. ‘Tain’t so, due to the fact that to be true to Christianity, we MUST say that all other gods are false gods.

You think they won’t??????

I’ll bet we DO hear something.

I often wonder if we pray more for the Church than we criticize Her....

Despite his title of press officer, Fr. Lombardi is just a bureaucratic hack with no authority to provide "official" versions of anything beyond his own press releases. The synod released it own official statements and Sandro Magester published these. The synod's harsh criticism of Islam stands. Perhaps this attack is some sort of a reprisal.

That is because in part the Catholic church in Europe knows what will happen in a generation. They will lay low, like the Eastern Orthodox had to, in order to survive.

We are not in such a position (yet) and have a duty to speak for the persecuted Church.
