They gathered in Our Lady of Salvation Catholic Church for an evening Mass. They are members of an increasingly besieged and forgotten minority in Iraq, Catholic Christians. Their herosm and love for the Lord has inspired them to continue to practice the ancient faith in the midst of what is a steadily deteriorating situation for them in this land they have called home for centuries.
Our Lady of Salvation Church is no stranger to violence. Churches have been bombed before in Iraq, including Our Lady of Salvation. The Christian faithful have had to contend with an increasingly hostile culture. However, never before have they experienced the horror of what happened this past Sunday when terrorists invaded a Church as the Holy Mass was set to begin, killed the priest and held the worshippers hostage for four hours. It ended with at least 52 dead, others injued, and our brothers and sisters in Iraq devastated.
Reports confirm that 120 of the faithful had gathered to hear the Gospel proclaimed, participate in the Liturgy, and receive the Holy Eucharist. There were women, men and children. One eyewitness who had been inside the Church when the terrorists entered the sanctuary told European news sources that the armed terrorists "came into the prayer hall and immediately killed the priest". Out of fear the witness would not identify himself. However, he also attested to the brutality of the terrorists. He indicated that they beat the worshippers and then herded them into an inner hall...

I heard it on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” @ 9AM. One of the hosts, Erin Burnett, reported it as one of the day’s top news headlines (it is a stock market/business show).

Repeatedly in Scripture, and historically from the very beginning, Christianity has always taught that the blessings of Abraham were not split into separate categories. Abrahamic blessings can be claimed solely by those who remained faithful to God in receiving the Messiah. This historically orthodox Christian teaching is rejected only by rabbinical Jewish and the 180-year-old Dispensational traditions.
The term "Replacement theology" is a pejorative talking point that requires the absurdity of the original Jewish Christians having to replace themselves.

Could have been just group of radicals or militants of unknown ideology. Wouldn't be surprised if someone reported it that way.
Despite his title of press officer, Fr. Lombardi is just a bureaucratic hack with no authority to provide "official" versions of anything beyond his own press releases. The synod released it own official statements and Sandro Magester published these. The synod's harsh criticism of Islam stands. Perhaps this attack is some sort of a reprisal.

However, no matter how edifying the comic books may be for Moslem families, it is bizarre to see the President of the United States, endorsing such religiously-inspired products. The POTUS should normally be upholding the Establishment Clause of the Bill of Rights, and not be promoting a particular faith, but this president seems to think his desire to create good feelings in Moslems over-rides his need to abide by the First Amendment. The real problem is Obama’s religion is Black Liberation Theology and after Rev. Wright doesn't want to be associated with the evil step sister of Islam - directly. Instead he is obsessed with buttering up our enemies, Islam, and “opening the kimono” to them.

I agree! However, this is nothing new. Christians are being killed all the time all over the world. The persecuted church does not make the news, it seems. I guess I’d rather be known by my Father in Heaven than the nightly newscaster, but you make a good point. We have to bring attention to this.

The article says that the terrorists’ reason for the massacre is the kidnapping of two Muslim women whose return they demand. The women appear in reality to be Christians who were kidnapped by Muslims and escaped captivity. During which time, they were subjected to a forced or fake conversion, and quite likely to rape, perhaps called marriage.
What a dreadful unjust burden for these women, that fellow Christians should be murdered in their name, and that more attacks may follow.
