Meg Whitman Spends $163 million to Lose the California Election
Locust Blog ^ | October 28th, 2010 | James Buchanan

After defeating Steve Poizner in the Republican primary, it looked as though Meg Whitman would simply steamroll the Democrat candidate. Meg Whitman had been the CEO of e-Bay and became a billionaire in the process. The idea of a successful businesswoman running California had a strong appeal, but an over-managed campaign by inept advisers and Whitman’s inability to take a stand on key issues of the greatest importance to California doomed her campaign to failure.

The individual running against Meg Whitman is none other than aging hippie retread, Jerry Brown, the same bungler who allowed California state workers to unionize, which led to salary and pension deals, that are helping to drive California toward bankruptcy. You’d think Whitman might have mentioned that in a few commercials, but her dream team of “genius” political advisers either didn’t think it was important or they were afraid of offending the union members.

A recent news article reports “Democrat Jerry Brown has opened up a wide lead over his Republican challenger, Meg Whitman, with just eight days left before Election Day, a new LA Times/USC poll has found. Brown’s lead over Whitman has jumped to 13 percentage points. Of the voters surveyed, 52% said they would vote for Brown while just 39% said they planned to vote for Whitman.”

Meg Whitman has failed over and over to make her positions clear on the issues. When the Arizona immigration law SB1070 became national news, Whitman could have clearly voiced her support for it, but instead she produced a bewildering answer that it was OK for Arizona, but bad for California because California is bigger. Why should the size of California matter?

The only downside I see to Gov Moonbeam is that I KNOW the rest of us taxpayers will be forced by Baraq to bail them out.

Exactly....Jerry Brown has NO clue what to do - something he previously admitted - and I'm sure he'll go to DC begging zero for our money to pay his union supporters. Makes me want to BARF!

She is not great at all but these nutters here cheering on Jerry Brown is just over the top.

Half of these poster are DU trolls who come here to astroturf for Brown since all the other elections are going GOP big time.

Note how they won't reply to the question about the massive damage a Dem Gov and State house ?

They just TRASH TRASH TRASH Whitman.

Hello reality here !!!

Calif is the largest economy in the USA and the world for that matter !

If Calif goes under it will drag the entire Federal Reserve and Banking system down.

You better hope Crazy SEIU radical Brown does not win.

If the polls were closer, you’d vote for Whitman. See? They won.

I never even thought about the polls, they aren't influencing me.

What is causing me a problem is that Meg Whitman is such a despicable human being, and I just don't think that I can join her on her quest in life.

I was already doing a write in for LT. Governor, I guess I will write in someone for Governor as well, I hate doing that though.

I voted for Nutmeg but not enthusiatically. I'm just worried that Moonbeam wil raise our taxes higher than she will.

I wrote in Karen England for Lt. Gov. Just couldn't stomach Maldonado. I even got all my family members to writer her in.

Well, I’m not going to vote for Meg Whitman, I got on the net to see where she is at, because I haven’t looked at her since she won the primary, here is where she is.

FR: So let’s talk about - because I think I read, but I want to make sure that it’s accurate - that you support the use of public funds -

MW: That’s correct.

FR: - for abortions. So if you go into this idea that the theory is that government money should be paid for things that are for the greater good, how would you justify taking, say, my tax dollars and spending it on something that I think we can all agree is controversial?

MW: Absolutely. It is controversial. And by the way, I respect your position on this. I really do respect your position on this, and smart, intelligent, nice people can agree to disagree on this because they are tough issues. My view is that if we are going to be pro-choice, that people do have the ability to have an abortion if they think it is the right thing for them, subject to the rules that we just described, that it needs to be available to all women, and whether you are rich or poor, you need to be able to access that right. And it’s unfair to women who can not afford an abortion, and that’s why I support public funding.

FR: So you would categorize it more as just another health care procedure, just like somebody who’s poor who is on public healthcare for everything else shouldn’t have this excluded from that. I’m just trying to -

MW: I understand. I would say yes. The fact of the matter is this is not just another healthcare procedure. This is not like a heart attack. This is not like a stroke. This is not like whatever. And so I think actually women spend a great deal of time thinking about this. This is an issue that I think women don’t take lightly. No women takes this lightly. And so they think through it on their own for their own situation, and on the choices that they want to make. And so if this is an available procedure, I think it needs to be available for all women.

I’m writing in Karen England also, and I don’t fault you for voting for Whitman, it is probably the thing to do, I just can’t do it, but I have looked at it for weeks.

Whitman and Maldonado as candidates that I vote for, are just beyond my ability to cope with, there has to be some limits to what the GOP will allow within their party.

So your here to make personal attacks ,smear, and trash Whitman since you can't win the argument based on the facts about Jerry Brown's radicalism is the real issue ?

You still have not back up your smear on Whitman as being despicable ???

How is Whitman despicable compared to Brown who called her a whore on a conference call or had his buddy Alread track down her illegal alien employee and exposured the fool to massive legal problems ???

Can you post or just smear ?

And weren't you peddling that tired “ Oh I don't know who to vote for but Meg is evil “ BS post last week ?

You need new material !

Incredible! Posters are attacking M.W. when J.B. is far more liberal. As one freeper stated: With no other choice, I would rather have somebody I agree with 60% of the time than somebody I agree with 6% of the time. California is a blue state! One thing I like about M.W. is that at least she spend her own money. Good for her!

Still trying to avoid answering the question.

You called Whitman a name why and where is your support for the comment ?

Second, you posted the exact same thing last week, a story about being on the fence but included a nasty cheap shot at Whitman ?

So do you support Brown and are here to smear Whitman?

Do you acknowledge the massive damage Jerry SEIU/ACORN/Carbon Credit Brown with a Dem State House would do to Ca ? I realize Whitman is not great but a Dem Gov / Dem State House would be a train wreck .

First off you little troll, if you want a conversation then back off on that insulting tone, and quit putting both your questions and then fake answers in your posts to other freepers.

I asked you if you read post 49, did you?

She had three things against her that made that race extremely difficult.

First, it’s California. It’s not easy for republicans there.

Second, the incumbent anger is against republicans there, because Arnold is a republican. So Brown is actually the “change candidate”, while the republican is held responsible for the bad things that have happened.

Third, she got played by her illegal alien nanny, and didn’t know how to respond.
