OpenOffice does that too and you can add extensions and plug-ins like you can with Firefox. Best of all, it’s free.

I don’t know how it runs on a Mac, but after using the FREE OpenOffice package, I can’t see any reason to go back to Microsoft Office.
OpenOffice does everything MS-Office does and does it just as well.
And yes, it reads & writes MS-Office formated files.
