Too much navel gazing here. Do your research and find the best firearm(s) for you. End of story. I will however allow a little lattitude here. Just like Juan Williams, the conversion takes time. We don’t see it yet, but the seeds are there....

I have more guns than even the gummint knows and I love them all.

My 12 years old grandson and my son and I went doe hunting last Friday {special early season for young'uns, military and old gezzers.

I took a 357, not to hunt, but I never go without one, and my grandson carried my first 30-30, lever action so he thought he was carrying a "John Wayne" rifle.

My son got one at 9:00 AM and the young one got his at 5:30 PM.

I'm a super happy father and grandpa.

Both were beautiful deer and the young one had "one shot, one kill" through the heart shot. I couldn't script it better.

My oldest grandson got his first last season and my eight year old grand daughter is now shooting 22 with her dad and me. She has 4 years before she can hunt, and she can't wait.

This post is off topic but I'm so happy, that I had to share.

When I still had guns, before that terrible storm on Lake Lanier, I kept the Ruger Redhawk loaded and few speed loaders ready. But I locked it up in a glass gun cabinet.
The glass amd the lock were enough to keep the kids out.
But it wouldn’t have stopped me for an instant. Would have taken no longer than opening a drawer...
Geez, I miss that Ruger.

They were all lost on a fishing trip if I remember correctly.

Not mine! Saddly though, when I moved to Florida I forgot how much more hot and humid it was and how many more termites there were. Left my guns in a closet for a month and when I checked again all that was left was a pile of rusty dust, splinters and a puddle of melted plastic. Tragic.

After his rant and decision to buy a gun, he add this final note:

Some accomplishment, America.

Instead of examining his own liberal agenda as a cause of his dilemma, he blames the country itself. It's like a California democrat complaining about the state's debt.

"shooting back at drive-by shooters doesnt seem wise to me"

I don't think there is a state in the union where you could legally return fire on a fleeing vehicle (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). In most states the standard for lethal force response is similar to "imminent danger to life and limb." In the case of a fleeing vehicle this test fails; the aggressor is "retreating". Return fire would be countenanced as retaliation, not self-defense.

I have a mini-excavator and I also lost all my guns on a fishing trip. (Sometimes they dont get out of the car. The mini-excavator and a few acres solves that problem very well).

Why is it you’re not supposed to have a gun if you have a mental illness? But even with a mental illness, you can still be elected to a position where you can have access to nuclear weapons?

If you already have one, (or more?) Maybe it's time to buy a second one of the same type (so you don't have to become proficient on a new type of gun)to store away for safekeeping. Just in case certain someones forget about that whole “Consent of the Governed” thing and decide run around and Confiscate them.

And if you've done that, maybe now would be a good time get like minded friends to do the same.

As for me, I lost all of mine in a hang gliding accident over an active geyser with the addition bummer that I had all my ammo along for the ride.

I’ve asked people before when they mention it but never gotten much of an answer.

Who exactly is going to go door to door confiscating guns?

Is this going to be one of those things like the census where they pump up the job stats by hiring college students and recently unemployed folks?

Somebody gonna drive up and park in my driveway in an early 80’s LeSabre and hop out with a 50 gallon construction trashbag?

I’m serious here. Because unless I see a whole lot of guys in uniform, and 100-500 armored personnel carriers PER COUNTY, I’m having a hard time imagining who.

Free Repubic is filled with whiny cowards who won’t stand up for their Rights.

The same group who are quitting the NRA are the same who whined they had a fundraiser letter in the mail while people like me get out the checkbook.

My posting was more of a factious way of pointing out that if enough people had extra guns stored away for safekeeping.
In others words, sealed up in some PVC or some other waterproof container and buried somewhere.

It would act as a deterrent to certain types along the lines of Sun Tzu :

“Supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.”

Where if they know they can't possibly disarm everyone, they won't try.

As to how they would, that could manifest itself in several different forms, most likely the would “USE” a serious crisis to implement a registration system using data from those 4473’s as a starting point.

Perhaps with a few “precautionary re-appropriations” in certain dangerous cases to keep those people safe.

Perhaps with the final step (Or final solution, if you will) of the concentration of Law enforcement and troops in certain areas to carry out the federal grab- back programs.

But if enough people stored away some extra copies of their current firearms, such a move would be entirely unsuccessful and a fruitless endeavor. As to where those guns really went to, well it's STILL supposed to be a free country. And despite the demonetization of them, guns are still merely pieces of property that are still allowed to be bought and sold.

So like any other piece of property, guns are purchased and are resold over time – we are still allowed to do this as a free people, so even if it looks like those 4473’s have a read on everyone’s guns, until the government get it's grubby mitts on private transactions, where those guns are is anybodies guess.

I think what you are saying is implausible and here’s why.

Let’s imagine they passed a law outlawing rifles of any form.

What percentage of people do you think would turn them in?

Just to guess a number, let’s say 80% turn them in.

That leaves 20%, I’m assuming you being part of that, who still have rifles.

NOW - YOU ARE A TARGET!!

It’s easier to deal with 5 or 10 percent of the people than all of them!

So to throw out another number, let’s imagine that there are now ONLY 15 or 20 million armed households in America.

Comes back to what I said before. Who is gonna go door to door collecting them? The Mary Kay gal?

What I’m saying here is I don’t see it happening, because I don’t think it’s feasible. I mean if they nerve gassed an entire state they could go in and mop up afterwards... but that’s about the only way.

If I had had a gun, and these kids drove by and shot at me and my dog, I’d have been tempted (I mean really tempted) to pull it out and return fire… thus endangering the public. But they were running away and shooting at them at that moment would have simply made me as much of a danger to the public as them. Even more so, if it turned out they were shooting a pellet gun. Another liberal lightweight starts to grow a pair and still doesn't get it. First off, a pellet gun can kill, through the eye into the brain. I've been shot at by a pellet gun/BB gun in France of all places...while traversing an open area with another American amongst an apartment complex. As rounds started whistling by above our heads from some window in the 15 story apartment building behind us I throttled her to cover amongst the trees and playground further away. She didn't even release we were being shot at. Fortunately neither of us were hit. Likewise there have been cases of .44 magnum rounds to the head that were deflected or passed through without incident. You don't know what the round is going to do. What if it was a .22 or suppressed weapon? The bottom line is you were attacked and the excuse of a defensive response is endangering the public? As far as I'm concerned, sending a volley of suppressive fire at the vehicle is tactically sound. And if you do happen to stop the vehicle, how many other guns/passengers are a threat? In all the excitement, without them showing hands quickly, hate for more perps to get drilled in head. But then again, the public would no longer be endangered, would they? What happens when there's a Mumbai public style attack or other more up close public attack, will you shoot then? Sure. The author isn't going to pull out a gun period, and this is all feel-good forum bravado. He'll buy a shiny Lorcin and keep it tucked away in his pantie drawer. You have to prepare yourself mentally and strategize before strapping on tools.

If confiscations began news would spread like wildfire in the proper forums and the perpetrators regardless of the local, state, federal patches would have targets on their backs, with patriots choosing time and place.
