Coons, Absent Minded Or Out And Out Lying?
Politically Frank ^ | October 19, 2010 | Frank Knotts

During the debate on CNN between Republican Christine O’Donnell and Democrat Chris Coons who are the candidates for the U.S. Senate from Delaware, Chris Coons was asked a direct question.

Ms. O’Donnell asked Mr. Coons if there would be any direct benefit from cap-and-trade for the company that he formerly worked for, a company whose current CEO is Chris Coons’ father in-law and which Chris Coons owns stock in. The company, W.L. Gore, also known as Gore-Tex is involved in making air filtration filters for natural gas turbines and also a material used in fuel cells.

It is clear that such a company would be interested in a policy issue such as cap-and-trade that will mandate carbon levels in the air. Both the air filtration filters and the fuel cells are products that are marketed as being able to lower green house gases, a key issue in the debate over cap-and-trade.

Mr. Coons gave a typical politician’s answer that W.L. Gore would not benefit directly from cap-and-trade, in this quote, “to the best of my knowledge”. Well it would seem that either his knowledge is not so good, or he is intentionally misleading the voters of Delaware.

First it is important to know that Chris Coons was a lobbyist working for Gore-Tex, so he would be very aware of any interaction between the company and the government. So how did Mr. Coons miss the fact that Gore-Tex has already directly benefited from the green movement?

” Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, through the Department of Energy in early 2010, W.L. Gore has already received $814,000. They received $604,000 to re-equip two of their factories in Maryland and New York to produce the Gore Turbine Filter, used on natural gas turbines. They also received $210,000, to retool a factory that produces a key element in the manufacturing of fuel cells systems used to improve the efficiency of vehicles.

So it would seem that W.L. Gore has already directly benefitted from the green movement by having their facilities improved by tax payer dollars. Is it so hard to believe that a company that is already involved in this industry would see even more benefits from legislation such as cap-and-trade that would mandate even more compliance with government regulations on the emissions of carbon and greenhouse gases? Clearly W.L. Gore is deeply involved in the green movement and would continue to be as long as it is profitable. Which if cap-and-trade were to be passed, it would be for companies such as W.L. Gore.

W.L. Gore is already receiving tax dollars to expand their private company. If cap-and-trade were to be passed it is fair to expect that they would see even more benefit from tax dollars and increased sale of their products that would be mandated by the government regulations within any form of cap-and-trade legislation. This would mean that Chris Coons’ family would directly benefit. As CEO of W.L. Gore, his father in-law would benefit, and in so doing be a potential inheritance and benefit for Mr. Coons and his wife. As a stock holder of W.L. Gore Mr. Coons would benefit directly from that company improving its sales and bottom line through tax credits.

So it would seem as if Mr. Coons is the absent-minded professor, or he is intentionally misleading the voters of Delaware when he says he has no knowledge of any direct benefit to his family’s business from cap-and-trade legislation. Clearly W.L. Gore and Mr. Coons stand to make a lot of money from the mandated regulations that would be a part of any cap-and-trade style legislation. Legislation that Mr. Coons has stated that he would support. Gee ! I wonder why?

Here is a link to the Department of Energy which shows the pay out that W.L. Gore has already benefitted from, it is on page 5. And while you are on page 5, notice at the top of page 5 the name Ameresco Inc.. This is a parent company that has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to find ways for New Castle County government to be more energy efficient. Ameresco was awarded $1.1 million. Now what are the odds that some of Ameresco’s innovations to make NCC more efficient will involve products manufactured by W.L. Gore? http://www.energy.gov/recovery/documents/Recovery_Act_Memo__DC.pdf

It is clear to see that there will be benefits for W.L. Gore, for Mr. Coons’ family and for Mr. Coons if any cap-and-trade style legislation is passed. Legislation that is sure to be brought up in the lame duck session of congress. A session that the winner of this special election to seat Delaware’s next U.S. Senator will be included in. Do we, the voters of Delaware, want to send Chris Coons to Washington so that he can have a direct vote on legislation that “WILL DIRECTLY BENEFIT HIM”?

I say no! I say we must send Christine O’Donnell to Washington to stave off this sort of backroom dealing and not allow big government and its cronies to steal from the American people.”

With the benefits of Cap & Trade going to W.L. Gore, will that help us with jobs?

Hmmm, while Chris Coons says we need to create jobs here at home, why do they have so many manufacturing facilities overseas?

CHRISTINE needs to check this out.

Delaware voters are entitled to know if Chris Coons has financial designs on taxpayers and if Chris Coons intends to use a Senate seat to aide his cronies as he did with his New Castle County Executive job.

New Castle County Executive Chris Coons Voted To Open A Pension Loophole That Would Have Allowed County Employees To Buy Into The Pension System, Or To Transfer Credit From Other Government Service. Coons Saw To It That His Buddies And Top Staff People — And All Six Of The New County Council Members And Their Staffs — Were Grandfathered Under The state pension Loophole Which Has, And Will, Cost Taxpayers Millions Of Dollars.

In 2004, while campaigning to become New Castle County’s top executive, Dem Chris Coons promised not to raise taxes. Since then he has raised taxes three times.

Are the Delaware political cronies helping themselves to pensions (thanks to Coons) also pocketing double dipping, working in government jobs, and/or collecting other government checks, like disability? (See Bell, Cali scammers.)

=========================================

Does the New Castle County executive handle the county's insurance? EXAMPLE In federal court, an insurance broker (in another state) colluded with officials in a massive bribery scheme:

-- Padding insurance contracts by $500,000 to $600,000 a year;

-- Several hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits from the insurance broker were funneled to the officials in exchange for support of the insurance contracts;

-- The purchase of an apartment as a favor to one official;

-- About $8,000 a month in payments to the official to keep the insurance contacts going;

-- A $20,500 Rolex woman's watch given to the official as a gift to an unnamed district employee;

-- A $35,800 Rolex men's watch was given to the official;

-- The insurance broker paid various personal expenses of the official, including the pay down of a $20,000 home equity line of credit; $12,747 in appliances; $5,850 for a plumber; and $13,592 to buy appliances for a relative.

-- The insurance broker was charged with stealing $216,000 from the muni for a nonexistent wellness program for muni workers. ...........the insurance broker is alleged to have lied to the school's insurance carrier, falsely stating that the muni authorized the insurance carrier to pay fees on behalf of the muni from its medical claims bank account for health care related programs and services that never existed. Charges including money laundering, conspiracy, forgery and theft by deception.

Would Chris Coons recuse himself from voting on military matters?

After all, family business has U.S. Department of Defense military contracts too (some made by their overseas plants)- a few DOD contracts:

Sure, they make money going offshore, but they make even more money by being among the hundreds of American firms who have refused to repatriate over $1 Trillion in profits!

That whole crowd, composed mostly of Democrats and their running dog lackeys, are essentially UNPATRIOTIC.

Chris Coons has no business holding an office of profit or trust in the United States government.

They basically do a lot of work with Teflon, which uses PFOA, a poison, in its manufacture. Most of the poison is gone by the time Gore starts the work on the Teflon. I can understand why Gore wouldn’t want to poison American workers, but most of the poisoning of workers is done by DuPont, and it’s often American workers. See the class action suit in WVA.

“As CEO of W.L. Gore, his father in-law would benefit, and in so doing be a potential inheritance and benefit for Mr. Coons and his wife.”

OK, I’m getting freaked out here. If Gore is Coons father-in-law, then Annie Lingenfelter Coons is Gore’s daughter. As I understand it, Coons mother married Gore. That makes Annie Lingenfelter, Coons step-sister.

Nothing like keeping the money in the family. Except that after January 1st, the death tax comes back and the FEDs take half of Gore’s money. Look for an exemption for people whose name starts with “G” and live in New Castle County, DE.

Robert Gore, the inventor of Gore-Tex, married Chris Coons mom.

Robert Gore is Chris Coons step dad.

I don’t think the word father-in-law is accurate.

Robert Gore has been Chris Coons step dad since Chris Coons was a teenager.

He went to the best prep school, Amherst and Yale, all with the Robert Gore / Gore-tex / WL Gore money.

“Annie Lingenfelter” I believe is a random person who Chris Coons married. I haven’t found any evidence that Annie’s family was or is super rich like Coons family (the Gores) is.

Message from County Executive Chris Coons....FY2010 Budget Passes and Stimulus Funding Update

Dear Friends,

Last week, County Council passed the Fiscal Year 2010 budget. This was a difficult budget process, and required many tough decisions. We cut $23 million from this budget, which is the largest budget reduction in county history. We reached salary concessions with more than 900 employees on a 5 percent salary reduction for the coming year to bring down our employee costs. Lastly, we asked homeowners to contribute $100 more on average to sustain valued county services.

This budget puts us on the right path towards addressing our long-term financial challenges, but we have more work ahead of us. What we cannot continue to do is rely on property tax increases and the Real Estate Transfer Tax to cover our expenses. What we must do is grow our local economy, diversify our revenue streams, and negotiate new contracts with our workforce that better reflect our fiscal reality. None of these are easy tasks, but are critical for the county’s fiscal future.

Earlier this week, we announced that New Castle County will be receiving federal stimulus dollars that will help support our Public Safety Department. We’ll also receive federal funds to expand current housing programs for homeless assistance, foreclosure prevention, and for neighborhood stabilization under existing federal housing programs. Lastly, the county will receive federal funding for one-time capital projects that will fund the purchase of solar energy systems, for example, to help power county facilities or completion of greenways in our parks, both of which are projects that we would not complete but for these federal funds. While helpful, these one-time capital dollars will not solve our ongoing operating challenges.

As always, I am proud to serve as your County Executive and look forward to working together to overcome the challenges we face and continuing to deliver great services for strong communities.

Sincerely,

Chris

IT’S BOMBS AWAY FROM FREEBERY

By Celia Cohen
Grapevine Political Writer

A plain manila envelope going to New Castle County Democrats is the political equivalent of deadly force, delivered to doors from Sherry L. Freebery, who learned years ago as a police cadet that if you have to shoot, you shoot to kill.

With the primary election set for Saturday, Freebery is three days away from finding out whether her career in county government is dead or alive, after a 30-year ascent that took her from police officer to police chief to chief administrative officer and now to a gory showdown for the Democratic nomination for county executive.

Freebery is trying to accomplish what widely is believed to be impossible in Delaware — which is to win an election while under indictment, particularly on charges of public corruption.

With her back to the wall, she has let loose with manila envelopes stuffed with four campaign brochures, not to mention nail files and candy, in a fight-to-the-finish with Christopher A. Coons, the County Council president who is her prime rival for the nomination.

Skeptics say voters will file their nails and eat the candy but throw the political literature away. If they do, they will miss some of the most toxic blasts ever to appear in glossy, full color in a campaign.

It comes from someone who really did kill a man during a gunfight with a shot to the head as a police officer on the street in 1975.

Freebery, who says she wrote the pamphlets herself, characterizes Coons as a trust-fund boy who did drugs.

She wastes virtually no ink on Richard J. Korn, the third Democrat in the field, a New York transplant whose role in this race appears to be playing a Greek chorus chirping “corruption! corruption!” in the background.

She also has nothing to say about Christopher J. Castagno, the Republican candidate, whom she dismissed in an interview as a “non-entity,” even as the Republicans believe the conditions are ripe for them to elect a county executive for the first time in 20 years.

This is between Freebery and Coons. She protects her flanks with a broadside against the indictment with a one-page handout that blares in red, “Have you ever been falsely accused of something you didn’t do?” and with references to her decorated police career and the Gordon administration’s record of surpluses, land-use management and more police, parks and libraries.

A four-page brochures compares Freebery and Coons. She says of him: “The first and only job that Chris Coons has ever worked began in 1996, as a full-time lobbyist in Washington, D.C. for his family’s big business. Coons attended posh ivy-league schools until he was 30 years old. He admits with a laugh to his illegal dug use while he was in school. . . . He also enjoys his own personal trust fund, which allows him the privilege to never need to work in his life.”

She says of herself: “Sherry Freebery began working summers at age 14 and has worked every year of her life since. . . . While Coons was using illegal drugs at his ivy-league schools, Sherry Freebery was protecting the citizens of New Castle County as a police officer, working nights, shift work and holidays. Sherry returned to school as a working mother and earned her law degree at night, while commanding the serial rape task force.”

Coons did go to Amherst College, Yale Law School and Yale Divinity School, graduating when he was 29, and worked as counsel at W.L. Gore & Associates Inc., the Newark-based science company where his stepfather is the chairman and his mother is an executive — not exactly the stuff of political slurs.

Coons acknowledges a dalliance with marijuana in high school — “yes, I inhaled” — and says he is embarrassed by it.

How Did New Castle County Executive Chris Coons Pull It Off?

//

(no link)

COONS -LINGENFELTER
Sunday News (Lancaster, PA) - Sunday, November 17, 1996
The marriage of Ann Margaret Lingenfelter and Christopher Andrew Coons , both of Wilmington, Del., took place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Massaro and the Rev. Jeffrey Krehbiel officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony W. Lingenfelter, Lancaster. She graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School and Denison University, Granville, Ohio. She is employed by New Castle County as an executive.

The groom is the son of Robert W. Gore and Sarah Gore, both of Newark, Del., and Kenelm Coons , Boston, Mass. He graduated from Tower Hill High School, Amherst (Mass.) College, Yale Law School and Yale Divinity School, both in New Haven, Conn. He is employed by W.L. Gore & Associates as a government relations attorney.

One idiot in Delaware just wrote that (0+ / 0-)

she’d never vote for a man named Coons because it was a slur. Also, our state News Journal (Gannett) used to refuse to publish comments about Chris Coons because of the racist connotation it holds.

There are plenty of reasons not to vote for this scion of the Gore, Inc. (his mom, Sally Gore, is a trustee at the DuPont-controlled University of Delaware too)and his name isn’t one of them. (Am I wrong? Isn’t it an Irish Catholic name?).

He is a proud card-carrying DLC clone of his mentor and state DEM defacto head, Senator Tom Carper.

Coons screwed up our county by playing the state DEM game of give-aways to deep-pocketed developers. BIG TIME. Plus, should he win, the sleaziest person in Delaware politics would automatically take his Executive seat. Paul Clark.

If Coons does a Scott Brown and actually gets off his fanny for 200K miles of road trippin’ for this election I will vote for him for the effort. But he won’t. He pays people to drive him. He recently reluctantly had to fire his driver, the connected brother of the New Castle County Democratic Party (also former) because of a well-hidden scandal involving a married cutie pie in county service. (she was demoted in order to find more time ‘to be with her family’.

Kaufman, on Senate Floor, Praises Delaware for Leading the Way on Green Jobs

October 30, 2009

Across town, W.L. Gore, whom we all know for the miracle fabric Gore-Tex, is a market leader in the membranes essential for fuel cells.

If we hope to move someday to a hydrogen vehicle, and I do, we will need their expertise and excellence.

BASH: The Pentagon did not request cold weather gloves for troops in Afghanistan. But Delaware’s Tom Carper got $5 million for one company, W.L. Gore, GORE-TEX, which has 640 employees in his state.

http://articles.latimes.com/2008/sep/13/nation/na-earmarks13/3

Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), has made some use of the earmark system. A preliminary review of his requests this year by Taxpayers for Common Sense showed that he requested money for 116 projects in Delaware worth $342.2 million. The requests included $17 million for one company, W. L. Gore and Associates, makers of Gore-Tex fabrics, to supply equipment to the Delaware National Guard.

Today, with more than $2 billion in annual sales and more than 8,000 employees (called associates) worldwide, the company is owned by members of the Gore family and associates. Gore prefers this private ownership and believes this reinforces a key element of its culture to “take a long term view” when assessing business situations.

Comment by Iowa Democrat on 8 April 2010 at 3:55 pm:

Comment by Geezer: “They are in separate battles. You won’t win Castle many points by noting that his challenger is rich. So is Castle, though not Michelle Rollins rich.

Has anyone seen Coons’ financial disclosure statements? Is his fortune in the same league as Rollins’?

As far as going after her husband, I’ll use any excuse to bash his greedy, arrogant, roasting-in-hell soul. It won’t be used against her by anyone but me.”

I don’t think Coons has ever released his financial information, and I’m not sure that he has to depending upon whether the assets are in his name, a trust, etc. I do think he should not pretend that he has benefitted from his step dad’s wealth. I heard him at a talk during his 2008 primary and tried to protray himself as this poor child from a single mom. And he claimed (or strongly implied) he was able to go to college because of the Truman scholarship he received. He did get the scholarship, but not only did he not need it, those are huge scholarships. In the talk/interview (I heard it on WDEL) he completely ignored his mom’s marriage, and how their life obviously changed after that. It seemed to me that he saw being lucky that his mom married well as a liability. I don’t see it that way, but I saw his claiming to know about people’s financial struggles because he grew up the product of a struggling single mother, who could barely make ends meet bordering on dishonest. I don’t doubt for a few years before his mom married Gore he knew hard times, but to make it sound like during your entire youth you did without, and without the Truman scholarship you wouldn’t have been able to afford college was pretty phony.

My guess is we’ll never see a financial document, other than bare bones on either Coons or Rollins, but I don’t see wealth as an issue.

Also I agree Rollins’ husband is fair game.

Just cause I’m still in a snit, let me point out that the author of this piece, Frank Knox, cut out pieces of a comment I made on the Delawarepolitics.net blog.

It wasn’t anything obscene or profane. It’s just a matter of watching out for Conservatives who profess to defend free speech unless you say bad things about a radio station for which they wish to work some day.

As for his assertion, it’s true....hey Coons is so guilty...Gore has received stimulus money and stands to benefit greatly from Cap and Trade.

But he will NOT recuse himself because hey, it’s why they want him so bad. But remember always, Castle voted for Cap and Trade in the House and he TOO would have voted for Cap and Trade in the senate.
