Is was the operative word here? I'm just back from a couple of weeks in Israel. It's booming there; no signs of any recession. Israel was a third world country a generation ago, and now from what I can see they live like we (in the US) expect to live but fear we may not be able to in the years ahead.

I visited Israel in 1977. It’s a nice place and the people were super neat. Very pro-American. History around every corner...and so forth, but so darn SMALL.
Damn shame the Israelis didn’t grab more land in 1967 and kick every Muslim out.
