We need to Declare War on the correct "entity".

We failed to "declare war" on Vietnam...what ensued was chaos...thank you LBJ. Now you would think that after a 16 year conflict that ended back in 1975 we (as a country) would learn something. Had the proper protocols been followed we would have either not been in Vietnam, or we would have given the troops what they needed to win by declaring war. Vietnam was not lost due to the fact we didn't know who the enemy was. It was lost due to the inability of our government to provide STRONG and DECISIVE leadership coupled with a willingness to DEVASTATE and DESTROY the enemy....but that is for another post. Lets fast forward to the present.

Now due to media distortion and entrenched political party ethics, we declared war on the wrong enemy.

1. We declared War on Terror. This is just a plain silly statement in it's own right, but this is as close as we can come to defining our enemy "Radical Islam" without coming out and saying it (their in lies our problem). This declaration of war on terror is just to broad. This makes it almost impossible to describe a clear enemy. After all there are many terrorists working for many organizations. 2. We declared War on Iraq. Again a mistake, this is war against a country, which conventionally sounds like a good plan. And historically the United States does very well when fighting another country, which in the conflict presents itself as homogeneous. The problem is the enemy is not conventional, and this is not a conventional war.

It's time to Gut Check America, and call it what it is, and do what we have to, leave the politeness at the door. This is a war against "Radical Islam". So it stands to reason we need to declare war on "Radical Islam". We need to declare war on "Radical Islam" as an entity so we can clearly define our enemy, and secure our precious oil.

From time to time I will hear a member of the PLA (Pompous Liberal Americans) say something like: "oh, this is another Vietnam...we don't know who are enemy is".

We do know who are enemy is, but due to politics and media is has not been official defined as a homogeneous entity. The problem is at some point it will come down to Muslim vs. every other religion. This is Islams destiny. They have given us an ultimatum, convert or die.

I would like to define a word that I have used in previous posts.

Caliphate:

A caliphate (from the Arabic خلافة or khilāfah), is the Islamic form of government representing the political unity and leadership of the Muslim world. The head of state's position (Caliph) is based on the notion of a successor to Prophet Muhammad's political authority; according to Sunnis ideally elected by the people or their representatives,[1] and according to the Shia an Imamate chosen from the Ahl ul-Bayt. From the time of Muhammad until 1924, successive caliphates were held by the Umayyad, Abbasid, and finally Ottoman (sultans of Turkey) dynasties. The caliphate is the only form of governance that has full approval in traditional Islamic theology, and "is the core political concept of Sunni Islam, by the consensus of the Muslim majority in the early centuries."[2] Andrew Hammond reports that medieval caliphates "enjoyed scientific and military superiority globally - both absent today".[3]

This is the goal of Islam, not just Radical Islam. 95% of American don't know what the word means.

What's worse is our government and legal system is inadequate to deal with this threat. Our criminal justice code was not designed for this threat. Our immigration/deportation laws and procedures are outdated and again inadequate to deliver swift justice to the enemy we face.

We need to call this what it is. And we need to fight hard to win. Unfortunately we are getting in our own way.

Good article. Not only is it the right thing to do, it's the Constitutional thing to do.

It is Unconstitutional to declare war on anything or anyone without a declaration of it. You can thank the Geneva Convention and the spineless people in Washington for this nonsense.

You meant "make war", not "declare war". The trick is the Constitution does not provide any particular language for a "declaration of war", so we make them up as we go along.

Now, when an invasion happens, we can kill the ba*t*rds anyway ~ which is something the civilian courts have forgotten. We don't owe invaders or their running dog lackeys any civil rights ~ we can field strip them like old cigarette butts, filter and all, and dump the remains in the sea.

The judge the other day who wouldn't allow testimony from a guy who said he was tortured is totally out of line. In war, when they invade us, it's OK to peel their skin off an inch at a time if we think that useful. That's not torture ~ it's self-defense.

I think that judge should be impeached, removed from the bench, and sent to GITMO.

once a belligerent entity attacks a non-belligerent, a state of war exists whether the non-belligerent so declares or not...

Found what you reference.

LOL

So far you are in the minority when judging honesty and a bit of moral relativist as a means to an end.

Good luck. Free Republic is tougher than any other sight I found.

I don’t know Cissy but her writing looks familiar.

Maybe she has different handle here on FR.

Seems the responses are about the same as they were here.

Original writing is difficult but if it is done correctly and draws readers because it interesting you will draw fans for intellectual insight that one is compelled to read and somethimes just look for.

Take Camille Paglia. She is as left a lefty as they come but her writing is so beyond fabulous I have to read her. And she doesn’t care who she eviscerates on either side.

Just as hilarious to read.

I would buy her drinks just to listen to her rake me and laugh the entire time, while I take notes.

Or take a Dr. Jack Wheeler of To the Point News. Besides his incredible story, he tells the most fantastic stories each that really cement history and the conservative viewpoint.

Pam Geller as well and she is hot on top of it all.

That kind of talent draws people to your site. In the case of Dr. Wheeler, he has a large paid subscription base and some of the sharpest posters.

This should be easy, as it has been declared upon us!

"You meant "make war", not "declare war". The trick is the Constitution does not provide any particular language for a "declaration of war", so we make them up as we go along."

On the contrary. Article I §8 states:

The Congress shall have Power To … To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal.

This means only Congress can only declare war, or allow letters of legal "piracy" to force enemies to do what they are supposed to do. To declare war means to engage in the act of war towards another political body. Everyone should know this as it is self evident. The president has no such power and therefore can not initiate any offensive or defensive attacks on any nation without approval from Congress. This is in fact war, no matter how large or small. Article I also clearly states that it is the duty of the Well Regulated Militia to repel invasions, not the military. And the president cannot deploy the Militia without the help of Congress.

It's one of many checks and balances the framers placed in the Constitution. The president must get the "OK" from Congress any time he wants engage our military with the enemies of the United States. Once he does, the gloves come off and he's free to do what he needs to in order to resolve the conflict.

During the ratification of the Constitution, only one delegate, Pierce Butler of South Carolina, suggested that the Executive Branch have this power. His suggestion was ultimately rejected in favor of the current statute.

To quote Abraham Lincoln:

Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object. This, our Convention understood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions; and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.

It would seem that you and I simply do not speak the same language. "Make" and "Declare" are two quite obviously different acts, but if they aren't in your world there's no further discussion possible.
