As Christine O’Donnell Begins To Surge, Obama, Biden, and Franken Head To Delaware
A Time For Choosing ^ | October 8, 2010...3:09 pm | Gary P Jackson

Although some polls released for public consumption show Christine O’Donnell still having a bit of a hill to climb, internal polling in the Coons camp obviously paints a very different picture. With massive losses expected for the Marxist-democrat party next month, why else would Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Al Franken be going to tiny Delaware, which we have been told is such an easy win for Coons?

We know the answer: PANIC!

It appears there is no early voting in Deleware.

I suspect this is for the other races in Deleware.

Also keeping her race front and center gives a face the left can fight against. See palin.

Christine would already be on top if Tokyo Rove and Krauthammer had kept their mouths shut. If she wins I’m sending both of those guys a poignant email.

Thank you.

I was worried about being harsh. But I WANT HER TO WIN!

I hope she wears her glasses during any debates, and like you, I don’t want her to go along with the Sally Field thing. And that is a perfect characterization, btw.

She has to appear older, prepared on the issues (which she is), and as serious as a heart attack.

and why does Sean still have that traitor Rove on his show?....I turn it off when he comes on....

what the heck is the matter with people....

Rush annoys me many times, has angered even....but he has been 100% spot on totally right this past several months and particularly these past few weeks....

I'll take a youngish, even though she is 40's, beautiful, well spoken, knowledgable conservative anyday of the week and twice on Sunday over the likes of Franken....speaking of the Freak, what exactly were his accomplishments?....none other than wearing a diaper on tv.

Sean is a wannabe, and like most Republicans really has no understand about who the Dems are and where they want to take the country.

But what bugs you about Rush?

A wise Freeper, now dead, used to say that if you wanted to know how the election was going, ignore public polls and watch where the politicians went and where they spent money. It is certain that Obama & Biden wouldn’t spend time in Delaware unless it was in play.

I wonder what picture internal polling for O’Donnell is painting? If it is so good why not release the info to build on the momentum? Leaners like to jump on the winners bandwagon I’d think.

Internal polls aren't released to attract leaners. They are released to attract money (people who give money don't like to give money to uncompetitive candidates). She has no problem getting money, obviously, so she really doesn't have much of an incentive to release the results of internal polls.

After Obama visits Delaware, you can pretty much guarantee O’Donnell’s approval ratings will climb even more.

Interesting- 3 ‘former’ CCDC members are on Coons’ staff; including one behind the phony ‘Tea party’ candidate in NJ:
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20101008/NEWS/101008010
“...To give Adler an edge, Ayscue— a paid CCDC consultant — had recruited a then-unidentified man to run as a third-party candidate.
That candidate would act as a conservative spoiler to confuse voters and pull votes from Adler’s eventual Republican challenger. But first he had to get on the ballot. With the filing deadline just weeks away, CCDC needed volunteers to hit the streets and collect signatures — fast...

One volunteer’s identity is already known: Marshall Spevak, an Adler campaign staffer in 2008, helped collect signatures to get DeStefano on the ballot.

...Spevak is now a press aide for Delaware Senate candidate Chris Coons, who is running against Republican Christine O’Donnell. Spevak is one of at least three former CCDC members who are working on that campaign.”
..
.
Coons was sued in 2005 for using his position to harass, defame and intimidate an ‘enemy’.

“...falsely accusing [attorney Thomas S. Neuberger] of...violating federal court orders, unethical behavior and other wrongdoing...disclosing to the Delaware media that plaintiff was dying of a brain tumor and that it was causing him to act erratically. Plaintiff also asserts that the Individual Defendants discussed his private medical information with numerous other individuals and during county government meetings”
http://www.ded.uscourts.gov/TNO/Opinions/Jul2008/05-916.pdf

Coons got off under political immunity but people don’t like abusive, hateful officials.

We’ve been electing older, those with serious gravitas, those that look business-like and mature, and the ones who were electable for years. How’s that working out for us?

A wise Freeper, now dead, used to say that if you wanted to know how the election was going, ignore public polls and watch where the politicians went and where they spent money. It is certain that Obama & Biden wouldn’t spend time in Delaware unless it was in play.

Because there has been no credible public polling in weeks (the last credible poll showed a 9 point Coons lead, but with Castle included as a write-in), the only way to tell what is going on is by observing people's actions. In light of recent events, there are several conclusions that can be drawn.

1) The Democrats think they can win this seat. They are clearly trying to find places to set up a firewall. They aren't going to go to places like Missouri, Penn, Ohio, etc. because they know that these seats can only be saved through an increasingly unlikely national surge by the Democrats.

2) The Democrats think they can lose this seat. The theory that they are going there so they can take credit for a win seems far-fetched. If they do as badly as they expect to, nobody is going to credit them for any particular win. If they did think that way, they would be setting themselves up for accusations of "well, if you could do this in Delaware, why didn't you go to Washington, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc.?"

3) They think that the benefits of bringing in the clowns outweigh the negatives. They know that the tea party leaning Republicans and independents are going to be showing up in droves, regardless of the circus being in town. But they must have internal polling that indicates that Coons' support is soft, and his turnout may be low. This is why they would be making a strategic blunder if they went to Illinois in the same way -- the independent/tea party voters are depressed, and an Obama presence would only fire them up.

4) O'Donnell's ad is showing a certain weakness. This ad was clearly aimed at women. And it was also clearly intended to show "I am not a kook". They must have internal polling that women are showing reservations about her, not on her competence, but because they think she might be a little off.

All in all, this is clearly an in-play seat, but one which is very volatile. Coons could win big, if the Democrats successfully fire up their base. But if they don't, and if O'Donnell can ease the concerns of female voters, she should win comfortably.

If the “get national mileage” theory is true, the democrat run media will be in on it and O’Donnell will be all over the news.

We’re now at 22 days out from Election Day. O’Donnell needs to put away the intro ads and go on the attack against Coons.. now.

I know... But remember, I am not steering that ship or anything but my own actions...

I think I would like to see a block of time - say half hour and have her go through the many excellent plans she has for action in Washington... Look the people in the eye and explain the heap of troubles we are in and the solutions she sees to get us back on course. Build viewership of it by plugging that upcoming message in every ad.

But, that is just my idea.

I could not wait for it (i.e., Palin shows up in last week of Oct to stump for CO’D, then one week later, she wins big.) to happen.

That would be simply too dilicious.

I honestly don't get the "I’m You" thing. I am sorry. It doesn't make sense to me.

She needs to talk like normal people.

“I honestly don't get the “I’m You” thing. I am sorry. It doesn't make sense to me.”

You don't think the PR firm hired for those two “I'm You” ads didn't test them with focus groups first? You may be the odd man out on this one, but most seem to like these two ads. Now are they doing any good in moving polls her way, I don't know. She has a very short time to close the gap.
