Yes, Kirk is a liberal. Not quite as bad as Castle, but pretty bad.

But we conservatives couldn’t beat him in the primary. And Gianopolis would be a disaster for our country, and for Illinois.

I would urge people in Illinois not to shoot themselves in the foot by electing Gianapolis by default, by thinking they can throw their vote away on a 3rd-party candidate who has no chance of winning a general election victory.

Look I am sorry but the problem with the GOP has been it’s supporters willingness to vote for liberals. I’d just as soon the liberals be in the other party where they belong rather than in the GOP workinging against the interests of America from the inside.

I’d rather have a liberal democrat in congress than a liberal republican.

Nuff said.

Yep.

Too much principle over practicality around here.

Folks, this is war. You take the best you can get, which may mean a flawed candidate who is only with you part of the time.

Half-full beats empty.

Then, second week in November, you start working to get the dream candidate elected next time.

One step at a time, achievable goals, long-term determination. We must take this country back.

I agree that at this point the vote should go to Kirk. These sorts of cases should be resolved in the primary. If the TEA Party can’t get their candidate in via the primary they should support the most conservative (or least liberal) candidate between the Republicans and the Dems. I know this is not ideal, but it is reality.

Yes, Kirk is a liberal. Not quite as bad as Castle

It was important to make an example of someone, pour encourager les autres, and Castle was the right choice.

Kirk probably wouldn't make it into my lifeboat in normal times (by contrast, I think the snow bunnies are as good as it gets in Maine).

However, the times are abnormal, and Kirk will work for me as #50, whereas Castle wouldn't.

My advice for IL FReepers: Hold your nose and vote for him.

You are a voice, crying out in the wilderness.

The "Principled Conservatives" would rather destroy America than support anyone who is not sufficiently pure enough for their exhalted standards.

I agree completely...the voters made their choice in the primaries.

I look at it this way, Kirk has a 54% rating from the American Conservative Union. That means we’ll be able to count on Kirk’s vote more than 50% of the time in the Senate, possibly quite a bit more since he’s representing the entire state in the Senate not just a liberal-leaning suburban Chicago district. Better to take half a plate of what you want and half a plate of what you don’t rather than a full plate of steaming cow pies you’d get from Kirk’s Democratic opponent. We’d never have him with us on anything. And Kirk’s seat is one more seat towards having the majority and the committee chairs which is going to be so important both in terms of what gets done in the Senate and symbolically is dismantling Obama for his 2012 run. This electrician isn’t going to win. People need to step out of Wonderland and into reality.

I am happy with the purged liberals in most places, but honestly, it is hard to contain the idea of IL getting a GOP senator in Obama’s backyard.

That said, if we end up in a tie, I almost think we would have been better off staying in the minority but with people to derail Obama’s plans.

Yep--the mobster is a disaster, Kirk is just another Graham-style disappointment.

We can also go sit on McConnel's doorstep and tell him to take the RINOs off the influential seats on the committees.

I would urge people in Illinois not to shoot themselves in the foot by electing Gianapolis by default,

Likewise, I would urge those who don't live in Illinois and don't understand how corrupt both parties are here, and don't understand how the Republican party establishment in this state rigs the primary system in favor of their hand-picked candidate to keep their uninformed comments to themselves.

TYVM.
