I must be the only person on this site who thought that was a pretty lousy movie.
To: Artemis Webb
I got a kick out of the scene where they were hiding underground and then popped up to shoot the bad guys.

This is the reason why, besides Al Quaeda and like minded groups, Muslims do not attack Russia or China.
But, Russia and China are using them as their useful idiots.

Some of the scenes were unrealistic, but the whole premise of the movie requires a little suspension of disbelief. On the whole, great movie!! I just hope the remake lives up to the standards set by the original...
To: Artemis Webb
No offense, but you are wrong on that one. It was a classic.

Well...I will say it was better than Iron Eagle. Of course a red hot poker shoved into my eye would be better than Iron Eagle also...

The 1984 version of “Red Dawn” was one of my favorite movies on many levels...For instance, as a metaphor for the fighting American Freedom Fighter DNA that always come to the surface when battles must be fought.

I thought the other team was the Bobcats?
But then I’m new to Missoula, Montana.
Anyhow, the tailgate parties were great and co-eds very cute.
To: Artemis Webb
It’s a good movie because it’s pro-American.

"Because[?]
Honestly I can't lay a finger on it. I think maybe it aimed for being something of an epic and didn't have the budget for it. The acting wasn't great but it wasn't bad. The action scenes were good enough. I thought the premise was a little far fetched but as someone already said on this thread it did require some suspension of disbelief and I don't have a problem doing that when I go into the theater. Maybe the word "lousy" doesn't apply but I sure don't consider it a great movie. I have hopes for the remake though.
To: American Constitutionalist
"Its a good movie because its pro-American." Iron Eagle was pro-American too but it was one of the most God awful things I've ever seen in a theater.

“I have hopes for the remake though...”
So do I.
Thanks much for your reply.

I think you have to look at what you're comparing it against.
Compared to all the movies ever made? Yeah, it wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't the worst.
Compared to all the pro-American, feel-good patriotic movies out of Hollywood since the 60s? Well, then it rises to the top of a pretty small tiny of offerings.
I was a teen when this movie came out. Raised in a Democrat, pro-union family. I wouldn't say this movie changed my life (the way Reagan and Rush did, at least), but it did make me start to think about the views I held and what being an American meant with respect to our enemies. Every little bit helped.

Iron Eagle was the real bad, when it came out I was like 11 and thought it was stupid.

Life, liberty and the pursuit and destruction of totalitarians.
Soap box, ballot box, cash box, cartridge box, pine box.
As more join the call and step up on their soap box, I’ll be looking forward to ballot box.
