President Obama declared to the world that Internet should be free in his speech at the United Nations:
"We will promote new tools of communication so people are empowered to connect with one another and, in repressive societies, to do so with security. We will support a free and open Internet, so individuals have the information to make up their own minds."It is important for the President to clarify what he means by Free Internet. Uncensored Internet? Or free of charge? If he meant Free Internet as uncensored, what is the difference between free Internet and open Internet?
It would be very disturbing if the President of the United States is going around the world advocating for Internet to be for free. This is a clear path to gain control over the modern day of communications.
Soon the UN will be talking about the peoples right to access The Net. I doubt that the Internet providers will give away their product for free. Like the health care providers they will go out of business when mandates to provide their product for free collapse their business. The government will be there waiting to take over.
So the only way to give the world free Internet is if the tax-payers pay for it. That will ensure world-wide government control over the Net.
The free flow of ideas is causing too much head-ache for the rulers all over the globe. China and Iran are censoring the Internet content. President Obama frequently complains that the information on the Internet is not helpful to his agenda.
One sentence in a long speech may be planting the seeds of the future government control of the communications. I wonder how this sentence is translated all over the world. Free as freedom or free as you dont have to pay for it?
I hope they translate it correctly all over the world.
We don’t want folks around the globe to think that Obama believes that Internet should be free (don’t have to pay for it)
If the government will give us “free” internet, it won’t be “open” for long.
I don’t trust Obama, but I can recognize him using a standard phrase like “free and open.” Obama’s statement was fluff, with pretty much no connection to anything he may actually intend to do.
‘free and open’- much like ‘hope and change’ - it can mean anything you want it to mean.

This is a disguised way to kill all the ISP's and phone companies and seriously monitor activity. Just what they want, government assigned email addresses and accounts. Yumm! That should temper blog posts, huh?
In that case, I also want a free computer to utilize the interwebs! (really, is a sarc tag required?)
Hell no. “Free” means that the government owns it, ragulates it and can shut it down...
Well,......
He has taken over about 60% of the American economy, so why not take over another 20%, to make it a nice round number,....say like 80%? The rest will follow all by themselves.
Then of course, comes the plan to end term limits on the office of the President. (Even Hitler still dreamed of his Reich right up the moment he put the pistol to his temple.)
Free? What’s next ? Free housing, food, wine, women and song? And who’s going to PAY for “free”? That would me me and thee...and thee, and thee....
I'm sorry - you don't understand.
You, ClearCase-guy are one of the people who's going to PAY for the 'free' for others.... You don't GET 'free', you supply it for others. Got it? ( Oh, and forget about the mansion and yacht - dems have more on their list than just free internet....
I’m with you on that fact.
