One of the rules of the Senate provides that those who vote on the winning side can ask for a re-vote.

Those on the losing side cannot.

It isn't unusual for the leader to vote so as to ask for a re-vote later.

He will ask for a re-vote if he gets enough votes to win.

Yesterday was the US Senate vote on S-3454, which was the controversial Military Appropriations bill which include the Don't Ask, Don't Tell rescission amendment. The bill was defeated when 43 Senators voted against it... Harry Reid? None other...but did the main stream media make any comment about his 'nay' vote?
Thanks csd.
