Anybody But (Delaware GOP)
Belmont Club ^ | September 14, 2010 | Richard Fernandez

Posted on 09/15/2010 4:36:29 AM PDT by decimon

About all the Guardian could say about Christine O’Donnell’s victory in the Delaware GOP primary was to blubber incredulously that a person who “is pro-gun, anti-abortion, fiscally conservative and believes masturbation is a sin” could win 53% of the relevant vote. They could only maintain self-respect by sneering that the “Delaware result will at least give the Democrats hope that they can hold it. The seat might hold the balance in the Senate.”

If that’s the good news, the bad news is that a “surge of anger among US conservatives both with Barack Obama and the Republican Party” — the Guardian’s way of saying “Washington, D.C.” — is such it gave victory to someone “widely regarded as being so far to the right as to be unelectable” — the Guardian’s way of saying “someone we didn’t expect to win.” Their crystal ball is cracked and now they’re pretending they don’t need it. The Washington Post saw a silver lining in the dark cloud and argued that with Michael Castle out of the way, a seat the Democrats once thought was lost is now safely in hand.

Good line from Fernandez: "Now the problem facing many a politician isn’t just whether to cross the aisle, but whether to speak to those outside the building."

Regarding the video, Rove came across as the out-of-touch insider. At another time I'd have agreed with him that O'Donnell can't win the election but this isn't another time. I base that on perception and not any knowledge of Delaware politics.

If the Republicans were smart they would get on board this rolling freight train for conservatism.

They aren’t smart.

They are more interested in controlling the American voter instead of being controlled by the voter.

It aint going to work this time.

"Rove, you magnificent RINO asswipe." just doesn't have the right ring to it.

All the RINO mouthpieces might want to listen to Scott Rassmussen.

Rasmussen happens to be the pollster who conducted the one poll the NRC drones all love to cite showing “0’Donnell cannot win”.

Rasmussen was on Fox news last weekend. He said predicting General Election outcomes on the bases of pre-primary polling is useless. The electorate is too volatile pre primary to give accurate readings on outcomes for the General. He said it usual takes 10 days to 2 weeks after the primary before the electorate settles enough for him to get a useful poll done

I will be greatly disappointed if the dems keep the DE seat and I hope it doesn’t happen and I will offer donations and encouragement to help in that race in November.

But even if the dems do win in DE in November, I’m still glad Castle is gone.

The party has to be purged. Look at the people in the GOP who are upset about Castle losing. Those are the ones we have to get rid of.

The reaction to the Castle loss is a kind of litmus test. Rove failed, mightily.

Why can’t the RINO’s simply cave in to us the same way they cave into Democrats all the time? RINO’s need to Shut the heck up and support the nominee.

Rove thinks it’s all about his chalkboard not about the real people out here.

I understand their desire to take the safe course on this particular seat. That does not mean they should bad mouth the nominee AFTER the primary. That is just preposterously classless and dumb.

They needn't board the train to avoid derailing it. If they're afraid she'll be their Crazy Aunt Chrissy then they can stand aside to wait and see. As the GOP candidate, she should get the same backing from the party as would any other.

Excellent article!

Richard Fernandez hit the nail on the head with this:
"The defeat of Castle serves further notice that anyone wanting to return to business as usual will probably be punished by the voters."

Rove allowed Bush to be called a racist murderer over Katrina, even by the top dem leadership, and all Bush could do was apologize.

Ever see a democrat apologize, for anything?

Ever hear democrats criticize their countless left wing kook candidates?

For the most part the Republicans in Washington are elitists who feel themselves to be part of the ruling class and thus smarter, wiser, and deserving of they’re positions because they’re better then the rest of us. It’s about time they were shown that they serve us and not we them.

Rove likely had much to do with the lack of border control during Bush II.

I just watched the Rove video again. His constant repetition of the media smears and dem talking points makes me want to vomit. I wonder how much influence he had over W. If it was a lot, it says a lot about why W was a good President and not a great one, like he definitely could have been. He had it in him. But he was surrounded by people like Rove.

Of course, it's his own (W's) weakness that he listened to them but still, they were there, talking to him. Which is too bad.

And somebody brought up the Delaware race, and I said, "Well, you know, I have no brief for Christine O'Donnell. But I'm just going to tell you a Senate full of Mike Castles is not gonna get us anywhere. It's gonna get a bunch of Republicans their chairmanships on the committee but it's not going to do anything to reverse Obamaism. Not one thing. If that's our majority with a bunch of Mike Castles there, we're in trouble." I was the only one at the table who thought this. Yeah. And this was a table of Republican conservatives. I was the only one, at least the only one who was willing to say it. I think some people did chime in later to one degree or another. (interruption) Some were Northeast Republicans, yeah. Some were Northeast Republicans. Don't misunderstand. I'm not trying to put feathers in my cap. That's not the point here. It's just that in a lot of places Republican victory is all that matters, no matter who the Republican is. And now the Republicans and some official Republicans are actually in a panic over the fact that this Christine O'Donnell woman is leading Castle by three points.
----El Rushbo

I wish Sean had asked Rove to respond to THAT... rather than repeat the dem character smears.

They are forgetting the independents. I think there are more independents in DE than GOP. And indys are polling as voting GOP. I don’t believe she can’t win for a second!
COD coming up on Fox and Friends.
