And now some deserved criticism of Israel

On paper Israel has a social assistance program which rivals the best in the western world. On the ground it's the same as Bangladesh. There's nothing here. Judge for yourself. And this is coming from a Zionist.

First thing in your vanity:

In Israel it's:

you don't work,

you don't eat

The problem is?

I read this person’s account of his son’s misfortunes. It is either a grave injustice or a complete furphy. That lad had so many misfortunes - car crashes, getting beaten up by Arabs, getting struck by lightning ...

Yeah! “Criticism” isn’t even mentioned on the article. I expected a critic, and instead it’s about health miracles (real, good old miracles) and what’s great with Israel. Cheater ;)

But they never seemed to be able to cure this young man, no matter how many doctors he saw - they ended up suggesting that it might be a pyschosomatic condition. Also, the medical bills were paid by his father, who had to take out loans. And apparently, he is not eligble for any sort of social assistance, nor even payments of his unemployment insurance.

So it seems like a very unhappy story, although I don’t know who is really to blame.

The thing is, he’s lived though everything in the world pointed out that’d be impossible. Even if it’s an unhappy story, he would be way less happy were he dead.

His father paid because he loves his son; the “social assistance” doesn’t, they don’t even know him.

I think it’s an amazing story, even if sad. The father can’t be blamed for attempting to save his son. Social assistance can’t be blamed for not throwing money to a lost cause. It would be very unfair (and would lead to other people’s pain) to do so.

I don’t think it’s about blame; it’s just the way it is. And it has went pretty well, considering the possibilities. I hope the dad makes it big through hard work, and that the son keeps on going against all odds. That’s what I can wish for, since hoping for other people’s money to keep them wired would be, at best, the partial solution it has been so far.

Maybe the lesson here is that “national insurance” can only solve so many problems before falling into something it can’t fix.
