WAS TIGER WOODS THE “POLITICALLY CORRECT” CHOICE FOR THE RYDER CUP?
09-12-10 | mostlyanti-lib

Should Tiger be included on the Ryder Cup Team?

Is he a former PGA phenom? Without question. Did he have an exceptional 2010 season? No, he had a decidedly lackluster 2010 season. Was he the first African-American golfer to achieve superstar status and retain it over several seasons? Aha! I think that could be the key!

When we put together an Olympic hockey or soccer team, we don’t select a player who is the first Croatian-American who plays a mediocre hockey or soccer game, and who happens to be grappling with some emotional problems. No, we go for the guys who will best represent the USA and bring back the gold!

Everybody knows why Tiger may have had a bad season. Blonde bimbos, divorce, huge settlement… yada, yada, yada.

Hey, guys screw up! Especially, young guys who are sports superstars or Hollywood matinee idols with a seemingly endless supply of money. The “groupies” come out of the woodwork when they catch the scent of the large green. This is nothing new.

Should sports fans forgive him? We’ve forgiven worse.

Should he be given an honorary spot on the Ryder Cup Team because he’s a former phenom, or because there’s a good reason why he had a dismal season? Probably not.

Hell, Arnold Palmer is a former phenom; let’s get him!

But then, there’s that African-American thing…

Overall, my favorite films were made in the 30’s and 40’s.

For politics, check out

Hardly racial in his selection.

Purely an addition to get people to watch.

Woods has never done squat in Ryder Cup competition except put eyeballs on the screen and thick wallets around the greens.

Charlie Ruggles was one of my favorite comedians of the 30’s and 40’s.

Same here. And I love this movie. The only problem I have with it is, now that my hearing isn't what it once was, the speed of the dialogue makes it difficult for me to follow, and I often have to replay a scene to catch what's being said.

UCLA Film Archives has recently “rebuilt” the movie, including the sound track. See if you can get a copy. Much easier to hear.

David Huxley: You don’t understand: this is *my* car!
Susan Vance: Your golf ball, your running board, your car? Is there anything in the world that doesn’t belong to you?
David Huxley: Yes, thank heavens, YOU!

UCLA has redone over 100 films, including “ His Gal Friday “ which is even harder to follow ;-)

ROARRRRRRRR!

"Oh, well, that's fine, Elizabeth. For one who hasn't had any practice, I think you've got something there".

"Got what?"

"The mating cry".

"Now don't be rude, Horace".

Thanks for your rational comments.
Admittedly, I’m kinda new at this.
I have a question: What in hell are some of these crazies raving about?

Admittedly, I’m kinda new at this.

No one's fault but your own. You've been a member of this forum since January, 2009. But from that date until August 11, 2010, you had only posted one reply, and it was on your start date. Then, on August 11, 2010, you began posting a series of new threads, up to and including this thread posted yesterday.

However, not once since that opening post in 2009 did you ever deign to respond to posts made to you. Not once. Not until this thread where I got under your skin for your rude behavior, and you replied to me.

This is a discussion forum. That means you join to discuss. To post threads and never reply is rude. It's the type of behavior trolls use all the time. That, IMO, makes you a troll, and your username, MOSTLYAnti-Lib underscores that suspicion. This is a conservative forum and "Mostly" doesn't count that well here.

You wanted to know what "crazies" like myself are raving about? Now you know. And it's brought on by your inconsiderate and trolling behavior. You don't like being "attacked"? Don't bring it on yourself. You're the newbie here, bud. You'll find that going along to get along is an idea worthy of consideration. That is, if you last, which I have serious doubts about.

Oh, one last thing. I know you didn't address your question to me. But since you referred to me, and others, as "crazies", I felt comfortable in making this response. I guess that's the crazy in me.

Point taken.

I stumbled on this site when I Googled a subject that I was interested in and “FreeRepublic” came up. I posted a comment on that occasion and I was impressed by something I saw on the site (I don’t remember what. As one kind commenter noted, that was a year-and-a-half ago) and I noticed I could post an article (thread?) regarding a subject I’d like to comment on.

They don’t bother to warn you of the (I think) overly rigid rules that need to be followed, and they don’t tell you that if you violate one of these dopey rules, you’re going to be attacked like you’ll think you fell into the piranha tank at Sea World.

I don’t know if FreeRepublic invented these rules or if they are just imposed by people who regularly log in to it, but if they are so freaking important to you why in hell did it take a year-and-a-half for someone to squawk about it?

You had to make an effort to join the site. Visitors aren't allowed to post; merely to view. Made obvious by your having a username.

Rigid rules? I guess not. And here's the Newbies page with information on posting, etc. Also, here's our founder's Statement page (which statement, you'll note, is also on the face page for Free Republic). The whole point being, if one's interested in being an active member, one will take the time to hunt things down.

Answered above. Oh, and it's kind of hard to "squawk" about something to someone who isn't in to communicating. Now, get off your high horse, settle down, and understand that your being here is as part of a community. Your success is directly related to how well you get along, and treat others. Calling them jerks and crazies when you've failed to communicate for the 20 months you've been a member isn't the best way to accomplish that.

Woods did not play on the 2008 team because of knee surgery. Remember he played hurt in a lot of tournaments that year and had to get it fixed. We won the Cup handily that year, against the odds. Woods played on the team for several turns going back to the late 1990s (I think). We won some of those, but got our butts handed to us by the Euros in 2004 and 2006.

Tiger Woods is the politically correct choice for anything. You know how black woman hires are referred to as "two-fers"? Well Tiger Woods is an "eight-fer". All he needs is a sex change operation and he'll be qualified to be the first person to step on Mars.

That movie is one of my all time faves.
I have it on vhs somewhere.
Haven’t found it on DVD yet.

“Quit rocking David.”

“I’m not rocking Susan..”

*Cue scene where the dinosaur skeleton gets knocked down.*
