Challenge Accepted: Conservative gay organization head agrees to debate WorldNetDaily editor
The Daily Caller ^ | September 4, 2010 Updated September 5, 2010 | Chris Moody

Posted on 09/05/2010 10:56:10 AM PDT by Kaslin

In the wake of a dispute between WorldNetDaily editor Joseph Farah and conservative author Ann Coulter over her decision to headline an event sponsored by GOProud, a gay conservative organization, Farah and GOProud Chairman Christopher Barron will square off in a debate later this month at WND’s convention.

Barron told The Daily Caller that Farah challenged him to debate over whether GOProud can be considered “conservative” after Farah argued on his site that there is no place within conservatism for an organization like GOProud, a group that promotes itself as “the only national organization representing gay conservatives and their allies.” TheDC is waiting for confirmation from WND about the debate’s details.

Farah dropped Coulter from a speaking engagement at WND’s annual “Taking America Back” convention in Miami for agreeing to speak at GOProud’s “Homocon” party in New York. (Coulter later said that Farah had never actually booked her for a speech, calling him a “swine” and a “publicity whore.”)

Farah contends that groups like GOProud are trying to commit a “coup” to unroot the conservative movement with an “agenda…to take the homosexual agenda inside the conservative tent.”

Barron insists that his group is genuinely conservative and said he looks forward taking on Farah in front of a WND crowd.

“Since we announced that conservative author and columnist Ann Coulter would be headlining our Homocon 2010 in New York City, Farah has attacked GOProud, attacked Ann, and challenged our work almost every single day,” Barron said in a statement to The Daily Caller. “I look forward to standing on the stage with Mr. Farah to defend GOProud, to debunk the misinformation he has spread, and to make the case for GOProud’s conservative mission.”

Barron added that conservatism stands at a major crossroads in its acceptance of gays into the movement. A number of high profile conservatives, including Lisa De Pasquale of the Conservative Political Action Conference, Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform and former General Counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee Craig Engle, have signed on as official sponsors of GOProud’s event.

The debate will be held on September 17 at 7:30 PM at the Doral Golf and Spa Resort in Miami, Florida.

I sure don’t want to look at a disgusting Pride parade. I despise the gay “agenda” and sexuality being displayed in public streets. I believe gays and straights both should be modest. Sex belongs behind closed doors.

But if you read my post you’d know that I think conservatives have a great chance to explain how being left alone by a smaller, less intrusive government will help EVERYONE. Including all the segregated groups imposed on society by the left.

I looked at it. It’s nonsense.

I am not clicking on your links!

But I’d not want to tarnish random individual gays because some are disgusting. Some straight people are, some of every race are.

Refusing to interact with gays is foolish. You're so afraid of them pulling us to their side, you make no effort to pull them to our side. Many of them COULD BE taught that demanding special rights will actually hurt the cause of freedom in the long run, and render their communities more vulnerable to oppression, not less. Many of them COULD BE taught that fighting higher taxes is more to their advantage than whining for cultural acceptance.

We are two conservative salmon, swimming upstream here! I agree with you -- see my long previous post.

People born gay

More nonsense.

This thread is a great example of why the Republican Party is so compromised.

Top priorities should be this country's security, returning us to fiscal conservatism, and upholding the Constitution... not making sure gays know we disapprove of them.

I'm sorry that you can only manage one or two things at a time. And I'm even sorrier that you don't understand that social and fiscal conservatism is all one cloth.

Refusing to interact with gays is foolish. You're so afraid of them pulling us to their side, you make no effort to pull them to our side.

My God are you clueless.

My brother is homosexual. And my Hubby's best friend died of Aids 2 years ago.

Your assumptions make you look very foolish. Maybe YOU should learn a thing or two before lecturing others.

Many of them COULD BE taught that demanding special rights will actually hurt the cause of freedom in the long run,

Ever been in a gay bar? I have. With my brother. I dare you to tell a homosexual that freedom is more important than his sex life. Their whole identity is wrapped in their sexual preference. It is who they are.

A lot of you who are so rough on gays want equality for your kids who might have learning disabilities, Down Sydrome, autism.

Give it a rest. Gays are not born, they are bred. This issue is about special rights for BEHAVIOR. There is NO evidence of "born homosexual" and there never will be. It's a myth.

That wasn’t a pride parade.
That was a street fair.
And that’s typical of anything ‘gay’.
Look up “Disney Gay Day” for pics of something straight out of Night of the Living Dead.
It isn’t about equality, they already have that.
It’s about enshrined forced acceptance.

Gays do not "advocate" anal sex any more than straights advocate oral sex...

I'm not sure how to say this delicately, butt what is it that you think happens when 2 gay males are behind closed doors? I can assure you, at least one of them will be "advocating" anal sex.

That isn’t “Some”, it’s typical behavior of MOST.
The ‘keep it in the bedroom, keep it quiet’ types are the minority.

>> If you agree with someone on 100% of issues, you are crazy. You can support gay people without supporting a “gay agenda.” <<

I agree with that. However, it seems this organization's purpose is to convince conservative Republicans to support the gay agenda, rather than convince gays to support conservative Republicans. See post #8. If you look at GOProud's platform, 7 out of 10 issues deal with government assisting gay lifestyles.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2583658/posts?page=8#8

>> he attacked one of the most effective, focused and powerful conservatives in the country <<

I disagree with that. Some conservatives say Michael Savage hurts the conservative cause, though I find him entertaining as hell. I say it's Ann Coulter. Everytime she opens her mouth she tends to hurt our side and give the RATs ammo. If she wasn't a real person, she'd seem like a fictional caricature of "bigoted right-wing haters" created by Howard Dean. She lost me a long time ago, when she supported Mitt Romney for President yet said she'd campaign for the RATs if McCain was the nominee (didn't have the spine to go thur with it, though). Ann Coulter is NOT about helping conservatism, Ann Coulter is for promoting Ann Coulter, first and foremost. Her willingness to help promote 'Homocon' for a quick buck is further proof of my already negative opinion of her.

>> Farah's now an open hypocrite, not just an implicatory one. Don’t miss this one. Joseph Farah, anything to gin-up a crowd, including rank hypocrisy. <<

Huh? Everytime some topic on "gay" issues come up, people seem to forget what the word "hypocrite" means. Conservatives who oppose gay marriage are attacked as "hypocrites" if they're caught having an affair with another straight person. That's not hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is doing something yourself that you attack others for. If anyone who opposes gay marriage was caught secretly getting wed to a person of the same gender, THAT would be "hypocrisy"

Here we have Ann Coulter going to a "gay event" to give her stamp of APPROVAL to their organization and using her name to help sell tickets to the event and PROMOTE their cause. Farah, on the other hand, is going to debate the leader of the group to OPPOSE their cause and try to convince the public NOT to support them. Unless Ann is going to use her speaking time at "Homocon" to refute everything Barron says about gay rights, it's not "hypocrisy" when Farah does so.

Do you also think it was "hypocrisy" when Larry Elder opposed attending Michael Moore's movie premiers, then invited Moore to come debate him so he could REFUTE the message of Bowling for Columbine and show how the movie was WRONG?

>> Bible thumpers are not "conservatives" - they are bible thumpers. There are many "kinds" of conservatives, who believe in conservative principles because they believe in the constitution of negative rights. That's WHAT is being conserved - and with it, protection for bible thumping bigots and homosexual bigots to spew their mutual hate at each other. Agreed. The problem with both Christians and gays is that so many of them are Christian or gay BEFORE they are an American conservative. <<

I oppose government funding, recognition, and support of gay lifestyles because of common sense, not because of my religious faith. I am a Christian but I'm not a "bible thumper". If you're going to insist otherwise and proclaim I'm motivated to oppose the gay agenda on the basis of what my religion says, I can point to numerous times where the leaders of my church have taken a different stance than my own position on an issue (Iraq War, handouts to illegals, etc.) As someone else noted, I agree that two people, or three, or four, do sexually in the privacy of their home is their business. However, I adamently oppose public promotion and funding of what sexual behavior they do in the privacy of their own homes.

If Farah was really interested in doing the right thing, then he should have just debated “conservatives vs. gayness” with Coulter at the WND event.

I’ve always figured the more gay men, the more potential women for me. But somehow it’s still just as hard to get chicks.

First off, don't wish for more gay men, for the conditions that allow for an increase in gay men also result in an increase in lesbian women.

Assuming you are reasonably fit and attractive and have a decent job, available straight women are out there I would say that you are not just looking in the right places.

So how would that expose GOProud as a fake conservative group? It wouldn't.

Why wouldn't it?

Coulter and Farah on the same stage discussing her appearance at GOProud and their specific agenda. It would be a lot better than how it's been handled so far.

This is what the debate is about. : Barron told The Daily Caller that Farah challenged him to debate over whether GOProud can be considered “conservative”

This debate has little to do with Coulter and everything to do with GOProud's agenda. They are not conservative.

Barrons Tweet in post 8 proves that.
