In brief, here are some thoughts for you to consider. You do know these.

1. Muslims live in Islamic countries and enclaves, where sharia is practiced. Period. No other religion survives where they are in control.
2. Islamic leadership is governed by Islamic law, according to the ‘strong man’ principle. Think “Lawrence of Arabia” & the tribes. There is no questioning the leadership. Ali (Omar Sharif) at one point makes salaam (touching his head to Faisal’s hand) just like 0bama did to the Saudi king.
3. The king/sharif has everything and doles it out piecemeal.
4. The Khalifa movement was started just after the fall of the Ottoman Empire (themselves, coming from the Osmanli tribe). It was specifically started to restore the capiphate. IIRC, it moved to Britain, and became Hizb ut Tahrir (radical—connected with the Muslim Brotherhood, aka, CAIR, aka Osama Bin Laden). There was a national conference in Chicago of these people last year, and the conference this year was cancelled at the last minute.
5. The tradition of Western study of Islam has evolved from being part of the long tradition of the ‘Greek studying the barbarian’ to an apologistic presentation of ways of believing by (usually) men from Islamic countries, who imbue their writings with the world view that Islam is and should always be dominant.
6. As the Middle East used to be considered the Occident, the veil between Western and Occidental thinking is at best translucent. We tell the truth. They lie to achieve their aims. We examine scientifically. They accept occurrences as ‘it is written.’ We separate thinking from feeling whenever possible. They don’t. We tolerate ‘the other.’ They will not.

Oh, there’s more.....but that’ll get you started.
