well if you use park capacity guide then it was 800 thousand to one million..but what counts most is the unity of the people who came and those who watched. MLK would have been proud. sorry to hear all those affirmative action profiteers didnt enjoy it.
That would be about twice the number who watch the CBS Morning show.
Can you point us to the Park Capacity Guide, so that we can show others why the crowd was bigger that is being reported? I’ve never heard of this guide, and it seems it could be a great tool to use!
That’s OK..they’re also still saying that the Dems will keep the House..
“...ignore a smaller crowd.”
crowd of whom?
why, American people, of course.
the chief elected representative of the American People proudly announces that he actively ignore select groups of American People.
sad
...and that Obama's a Christian, and that this is the summer of recovery, and that people cause global warming, and that.....
NBC said it was over 300K.
I came in from the east about 10:30AM and walked around to the north side... couldn’t get very far... went back around through the WWII memorial and ended up sitting just south-west of the WWII memorial where I could “sort-of” see a screen and hear a little bit. I estimated 400,000 minimum while I was there based on my experience with events of 80-100k.
After seeing the photos of just how densely people were packed I think my estimate is low. And I was not even including people on the Washington monument side or people swirling around the outer edges.
And on top of all that many people never made it there or got there really late... the metro was crazy jammed.
JW
That would be consistent with what I saw.

I read that park police estimated 1.7 million -
from all the photos - I’d bet they’re the closest (and most honest)
As I was sitting there watching the people pass to-and-fro, I noticed a guy with a Texas state flag on a long metal pole. I'm sure he meant no disrespect, but the flag was upside down. The red strip is ALWAYS on the bottom and the 5-pointed white star ALWAYS has one point up. So I motioned to a young guy and told him about the flag. He ran off, found the guy with the Texas flag and made it right. Shortly thereafter, I saw the flag, again, only this time it was flown properly. Great, nice people.
Yeah, I think 400,000 to 600,000 is about right for attendance.
A look how clean we left the area!
I posted this on another thread.
Bottom line is it does serve the conservative cause to under or over estimate. You can't measure the MOTIVATIONAL factor.
Did it really matter how many people took part in the ORIGINAL Boston Tea Party?
“CBS’ Morning Show on Sunday gave the figure of 87,000.”
Are you sure it wasn’t 87,123 SeeBS? The idea that a crowd that size could be estimated to the closest 1,000 is pretty ridiculous—especially when it’s obvious the crowd measured in the hundreds of thousands. Their reporting makes it sound like they carefully counted heads as they came through METRO-style turnstiles. And they wonder why their viewing numbers keep plummeting...
I saw that flag too and was immediately confused by it! Our NC flag has the same fields with the red on top and a small star, so it looked a bit like NC, but not right. Now I know why I couldn’t place it... it was TX upside-down!
Good on the chap for correcting it.
