Not only did a lot of people show up at the Lincoln Memorial and around the reflecting pool on Saturday, the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jrs famed I have a dream speech, but the mainstream media drew criticism for reporting the obvious. They were mostly white.
Maybe I just wasnt paying attention in the weeks leading up to the event, but I assumed Glenn Beck was going to use the platform to call attention to the key issues with which the nation is struggling and which will influence the outcome of the forthcoming November midterm elections. Obviously I was wrong.
I have been to an evangelical tent meeting. I actually met the late Oral Roberts long ago in Columbus, Georgia where he invited me to attend. I can still recall the fervor of that evening and I was reminded of it while watching Beck.
There was a lot of talk of God, but I dont recall that Dr. King, a preacher of astonishing power, was preaching Christ Jesus that day forty-seven years ago. King focused on the problem that had been troubling the soul of America since the days of the Revolution, the days of the Civil War, the Reconstruction, and the hundred years that had passed since then.
The lack of comprehension of basic English and/or the desire to put one's own biased interpretation on matters before us in order to demonize one public personality has reached a level here at FR that is beyond ridiculous.
If anyone has listened to Beck for any concerted amount of time (as they claim) or saw him at that rally for the first time in their lives, there is no way the idea of collectivism could be reached whatever. Thank you for pointing this out.
"Has-been" Al Sharpton. What a joke, a very bad joke!
So what does God say?
So is Al Sharpton with God ... or against?
I encourage it. Be my guest.
I see reflected in you why so many secular ‘drug & alcohol abuse’ programs fail. Elitest.
What you’ve written in your posts here makes sense to me. A lot of sense. One addiction for another. Fills in some questions marks I had. Thanks.
Hey, check out the big brain on Ronbo. Having to fit that huge brain in a normal size human cranium must give you excruciating headaches. So what's your plan to save the nation. . .none?. . that's what I thought. ..so maybe a "thanks for the effort, Glen" might be more appropriate?
seems like the president is not the president of all the people — just the Democrats and people who think like him — but hey, there are a whole bunch of us taxpayers and voters out here spread all over this country who are also citizens even if he does try to disenfranchise us. Treating us as if we’re not citizens does not mean it’s true. We are Americans — red, white and blue — through and through.
It's pretty obvious to me. I saw 'Reverend' Sharpton on MSNBC this morning, saying that the whole point of the MLK march was to ask the government for "help" against the States taking away their rights. He was saying that we need more "help" from the government today.
When they cut away to the other people in the studio while he was talking, even they had incredulous looks on their face.
Please, this accusing people of being trolls simply because they disagree is a bit much. Reasonable conservatives should be able to disagree about Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, LDS, NRA or any other high profile person or organization without throwing around accusations of being a troll. Group Think is for the other side.
Therefore, what I saw Saturday wasnt a prayer meeting, it was a massive AA meeting.
It looked more to me like an all-inclusive multi-faith Promise Keepers rally - albeit led by a cultist.
PK, for while it lasted was actually a socially good thing. 8/28 stoked many people up with optimism and real hope - what exactly is wrong with that?
I was there. The place had the feel of a Sunday afternoon church picnic for 500,000. Doesn’t sound like you care for Becks looks very much. That’s ok.
if the often notorious Jerry Falwell could vote and get along with people of the mormon faith, then I think this fanatical mormon bashing is a bit over the top.
Besides Glen Beck has more credibility in his left pinky than all of Huckabee.
That one day the media will judge men, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character!
What utter nonsense!
Beck was preaching individual liberty and personal responsibility!
The same thing I preach to my kids!
And - btw - you spelled consciousness wrong
So discussing the American Revolution is a bad thing, huh? I agree that to most liberals it is like the dawn to a vampire. It is to be avoided, shunned and when forced to face it, the liberal must rewrite it, lie about it, vilify it. The founding fathers are the antithesis of today's liberal. How can you, a liberal, allow everyone to see yourself compared to men who believed in honor, character, self reliance, responsibility and freedom to choose their own destiny? You cannot, because the glaring differences reveal you for the parasite that you and all other liberals are. As a former astronaut who walked on Mars, I have to ask you, a former counselor, have you ever even been to an AA meeting? In the twelve steps, God is prevalent in number 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11. If you were a counselor, which I highly doubt, you must have been fired because you do not seem to have a clue as to what you are talking about.
And welcome to FR by the way.
Thank you!!
That was the whole point of the "shindig". Beck actually laid out everything that was presented on Saturday in his book "Common Sense" and the principles were exactly the same as those of Thomas Paine in his pamphlet that Beck's book was based on.
The event was advertised as a non-political rally from the beginning. Having said that, Beck has done more to educate us on American history, and exposed Obama’s Marxist past and associations than any other person. That alone makes him an American treasure.
I agree.
Reasonable conservatives should be able to disagree about Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, LDS, NRA or any other high profile person or organization without throwing around accusations of being a troll.
I don't see the attacks on Glenn Beck as being anywhere close to reasonable. If taking cheap shots his struggle with alcoholism, denigrating his message on 8/28, ignoring the contributions to the Special Operations Warrior Fund doesn't qualify someone to troll status, I don't know what does.
I've witnessed more garbage directed at Beck for his rally than I've seen for the charade of Sharptons rally here on FR. Frankly, that's sick and disgusting. Idiots on this Forum that have more in common with Chris Matthews than with Glenn Beck should embrace being called trolls.
Sorry about the Welcome, I forgot it was 2010, not 2009...memory issues, probably due to the zero gravity from my space travels.
