National Service Corps & Automatic Enlistment For Freshmen

Welcome to high school. Now drop and give me 50.

The entire freshman class at Carvers Bay High School has been automatically enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, a military-sponsored program that trains high school students in military discipline and concepts. Principal Richard Neal, a Navy veteran, said the school's Marine Corps JROTC class is fulfilling the student's physical education requirement and is part of the school's Ninth Grade Academy.

But Charles Holloway, the parent of a freshman student at Carvers Bay, said he did not want his son in that program and when he asked that his son be taken out, his son was put in a class by himself.Holloway said he feels his son was being punished for not wanting to take part in that class.

As a mom who had two high schoolers who voluntarily participated in JROTC, I am very troubled by any school that automatically enrolls all students in a military program requiring uniforms, marching in formation, and studies of military strategy.

I also know that there is very little physical exercise involved in the program. Most of the curriculum is aimed at developing discipline, conformity and obedience to the chain of authority.

Is this a precursor of the Obama National Service Corp, which mandates that every citizen serve a two year stint in intensive community service... or.. is it simply a reformulation of the Youth League of the National Socialist Workers' Party (NSDAP) a.k.a., Hitlejugend?

MCJROTC - The leadership and teamwork skills have served me in good stead all my life. 1Sgt Daly, Gunny Gawne, and Lt. Col. Ruhsam were great role models. In my 50’s, still remember my manual of arms for the M1 and M14, how to take down , clean and reassemble them as well as a .45. Also proper procedure on the firing line and what a good sight picture is. All kids were treated like adults, ( probably for the first time in their life). I can also wield a mean iron, cause the local laundry never seemed to put the right crease in my uniforms. God bless them all, cause they are on guard duty in heaven. and Thanks to them.

If this doesn’t scare the bageesus out of people I don’t know what will. If they allow this you can be sure that the tyrant in the White House will soon control every aspect of our lives.

Extraordinarily dangerous.

This is a Trojan horse to introduce mandatory government servitude under cover of a patriotic tradition.

“Thanks to them.”

I don’t think anybody is discounting the value of military training however when it is mandated by the gubmint then you have a problem.

That’s what happened in Germany in the 1930’s and that didn’t end well.........

there was a Country in Europe that had a similar program in the 1930’s. They called it the Hitler Jugan.

I don’t think it was mandatory and I seriously doubt that they have firearms training. Also, I seriously doubt that the history of the United States and love for the Country will be taught.

Worshiping obama and singing his praises, Whitey is bad,Christians are bad and bigoted , homosexuality is good will probably be the curreclum.

If it is mandatory, I am not for it and if the Government is involved, knowing what they advocate, it won’t be good for us.

It will for those that know what is happening, including me. But, it has been my experience that 99% of the people don’t know and don’t want to know. “Maybe so, but, God is in control is their response.”

ROTC is great program for kids who are thinking of a military career. Its not meant to be mandatory for all students. What happened to Track, Softball, Volleyball, Tennis, Swimming etc.? That is Physical Education.

It guess that this story needs a little more context.

For example (and as incomprehensible as it is to need to ask), of what race is Principal Neal? Has he met with any members of the federal government lately? What sort of military doctrine are the students being taught... is it authentic US history, or revisionist, blame-America-first crap emphasizing government uber alles?

Or, is he another patriotic American who is absolutely fed up with the moral caliber of today’s youth, and has decided to do something about it?

ETA: Also, what is the mood of the rest of the rest of the teachers... are they behind this 100%, or are they squealing about “... turning innocent children in nativist thugs”?

If it’s the latter, you can bet that the JROTC enrollment is a good thing.

From the local Anderson, SC paper:

ANDERSON — Area school administrators question the effectiveness of one South Carolina principal’s decision to make his school’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program mandatory.

Principal Richard Neal of Carver Bay High School in Georgetown County said he decided to make JROTC mandatory for freshmen because students in leadership programs like ROTC are more likely to graduate.

The programs are optional. No one is being enrolled against their will.
